my uncles had tattoos and regretted every one of them.
I have a friend who had them on his arms and regretted them - tried to have one removed and it was a disaster.
I have a tiny mark on my thumb from an accident with a pen. It's purple and over 25 years old - ugly
every single person I have seen with a tatoo anywhere visible is absolutely a turn off.
the bottom line is - it's for life. Think long and hard about it before you do it.
In my opinion, there are far more interesting things to spend money on.

I'm not sure if I count in this one. I got my first tattoo 5 and a half years ago. As of to date I have 9 and plan on getting 3 more. I love my tattoos. They all tell about my hertiage and are all about each other. Kinda like tellin a story, I like it. And I don't regret them now and probably never will. There is one I do, but it's so small and I can easily change it. So I'm not worried about it. The only thing I am worried about though is when my kids see them. That part I didn't think about. But, that's what I love about mine being of my bloodline. When my children see them they'll see their hertiage as well. So when I think about it that way I don't feel so bad. Now, all I have to worry about is when they wanna get one. I didn't get my first till I was 20. They might have to do the same LOL

Well although my tattoo isn't 20 years old I do regret getting mine.Fortunately Mine is small and not in a place where everyone notices it (in my ear).It didn't hurt or anything but I really wish I had listened to ...I know so cliche...my mom.Hope this helps you out.As to the first person who gave you an answer the only color they had way back when was green..not blue. And if you wanted to go back even further many cultures used ink derived from plants and it was black.Instead of there being a needle involved there was a certain type of rock that was hand carved and hollowed out. They would use bamboo or another "like wood" (soft wood) and split it just at one end.the "needle" would be placed or wedged inside the crack and a string like materiel would be secured to ensure that there wasn't any slippage. The needle would then be dipped into the ink and tapped into the skin.Only men got these tribal tattoo's.Traditionally there to show no pain.

My first tattoo 12 yrs ago was a flower on my thigh to cover up a stab wound from childhood that was a nasty keliod scar. I get lots of compliments in the summertime when I wear miniskirts instead of the stares I got before when it was just a scar. The second one 9yrs ago was a wreath of flowers and vines with butterflies floating around my navel is beautiful and gets lots of compliments when I wear half tops. None of my tattoos are visible unless I want them to be. They bring a smile to my face when I look at them. I will never regret them, ever.

I got mine 13 years ago, and I still love it to this day. Be very very sure before you get one. I've always loved tattoos and wanted one ever since I can remember, I finally found the courage to get it when I was 17. Honestly, if you're still asking questions like this, it probably means you're still not sure. Wait a while and see wether the desire fades or gets stronger. Removing a tattoo will cost a lot more than getting one, not to mention the pain and the scar if it's not done properly.

I know a LOT of VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) vets that have old sailors tattoos, one of them even has art done by Sailor Jerry Colins himself! I've asked them about their tattoos, and every one of them said they haven't regretted it once, that they loved the art for what it was, and it reminds them of when they were in the service and got the tattoos. Also, a lot of them got some for protection, or in memory of a loved one, so I believe that the reason they got the tattoo is as much of a reason they still love them to this day (a few are WWII vets, most are Korea and 'Nam)

I got a tattoo when I was in the Navy back in the early 70's.
I've never regretted it, but I was careful to choose something I could live with for the rest of my life.
The ink has faded and it is not so colorful anymore but I still don't regret it.

i've only had my tattoo 6 years, but i don't regret it. it's a tribal sun (i know, yawn), but i still love it and still get a lot of compliments. i don't think that anyone should regret getting a tattoo. it might fade over time, or represent something that isn't you anymore, but it was once a part of your life, so it was meaningful at some point. even if you were drunk off your *ss, it happened, and has a story.

I got one of mine almost 20 years ago and I still love it.
It needs to be touched up a bit, but after 20 years, that's not bad at all.
I spent quite a while thinking about what I wanted too and made sure it would be something I would love for the rest of my life.

I got a tatoo of a Viking (my school's mascot) when I was 17. It's on my shoulder. Of course my parents freaked out. But I wouldn't change a thing. It has been a great and fond reminder of a wonderful time of my life. Good luck with whatever you decide. Oh, by the way, that was 30 years ago.
