Always good to get some information before you get a cat. As far as feeding a cat it's not all that hard, or it shouldn't be. Cats can be finicky, they don't always like what you give them at first and it may take awhile to find out exactly what they like. You are one step ahead, you can ask your friend what she has been feeding the cat a far as type of food, dry, wet, brand, flavor and go with that to start with. Usually it is good to feed a cat some wet food twice a day, give the cat about a 1/4 of a can of cat food in the morning and a 1/4 of a can in the evening. Then it is good to leave some dry cat food around for the cat to nibble on during the day. As far as dry cat food goes you should be aware that a lot of dry cat foods are not really good for your cat. Most have ash and magnesium in them and it is bad for the cat's bladder. You should probably stick to healthy cat food like Iams to keep the cat healthy. Always keep a bowl of water around for the cat, this is vital.
As far as playing with the cat. Well, the cat will sleep a lot of the day, this is normal for a cat. But when the cat is awake play with the cat as much as you and the cat seem to enjoy. Just remember one rule of thumb, the more expensive the toy the less likely it is the cat will play with the toy, they like pieces of paper, belts that are dragged along the floor, things filled with catnip. They also like to eat catnip at times, this is not bad for them at all. It will either make them playful or put them to sleep.
As far as taking a cat from one home to another, well, it will take a little while for the cat to get adjusted, but cats have very short memories and as long as you give the cat attention and love the cat should bond with you in a short period of time. I wouldn't worry about that. Just take the time to make the cat get to know you and know that it is in a new cat friendly home and all will be fine. There is no way of knowing if the cat will like you, but if you are a cat lover I would say no problem. Cats can sense when someone is a cat fancier.
Also, cats are not herd animals, that means that they tend to like to be alone. So, taking the cat away from the sibling shouldn't be a problem. It's just like when you take a kitten away from it's mother, there is never a problem. In fact, after the cat is weened from the mother the mother forgets that the kitten was even it's offspring. So, don't worry so much. Just look forward to getting your new cat and get your home ready for the new arrival. Make sure you have plates ready for the food and that you have a litter pan and litter ready. You want to be ready and relaxed for when the cat comes. The cat will sense if you are nervous, and you don't want that. You want to be as loving as possible.
I wish you and the cat a long and happy life together. I hope you are as happy with your cat as I am with mine.

Feed him cat food. Adult cats eat 1 cup of food a day. 1/2 cup in the morning and 1/2 cup at night. Try different toys. Not all cats like the same toys. Play with him as much as he will let you. Some cats like to play more then others. Yes he will get use to you, but it will take a little while. The cat will miss your friend for a little while but he will be ok. Don't let the cat see your friend for about a month. That way he will have a chance to get use to you.

First off, I recommend giving your friend some worn article of clothes of yours w/ your smell on them. Underwear and socks are the best. I know that sounds gross but thats where your odor is most concentrated. This will get the cat used to your scent.
For feeding, I keep dry food out all day along w/ water all day. I give my 2 girls 1/2 can of wet food once a day.
For play, as often as humanly possible.
Cats love attention. They love interactive toys and catnip. It will take about a week or 2 for the 2 of you to get to know and understand each other. Dont worry about him missing his siblings or the other owner. But also, DO NOT let you former owner see the cat for at least a month after you get him. He needs that time to fully bond to you. Otherwise, he could get very easily confused.
I hope my info has helped. Good luck and enjoy the new addition to your family.

If I were you I would get him fixed ASAP, usually around 6 months they can be fixed. When it gets mating season which is around right now he will start spraying all over the place and marking his territory. This is a really stinky ritual that all cats do. when you get them spayed or neutered they don't tend to do it. Cats are wonderful pets and there is no limit to play time he will miss his family but after you get him and he sees how much you love him he will come to love you right back. I don't believe I have ever heard of a cat dying of sadness. He will be fine

i would always keep his food dish moderatly full. if hes an older cat he might not want to play all the time but whenever you have a spare moment try to do some thing w/ him he might miss his formal owner and friend/girl friend but being engaged in lots of activitys should keep his mind from the subject. ask your friend what he used to feed him and give him that, he already has to go through so many changes.
hope this helps,
anouther kitty lover

You should feed them about 2 cups of food a day. You should play with them as much as possible. They love anything with strings and cat nip. ; )
I reccomend "Da Bird" for a toy (google it) It is great and it look's like a bird when it is spinning through the air. My kitten loves it. Don't pick them up that much because they won't like it.
Good luck, you'll love cats!

um you should feed him when his bowl is empty i think they will know when enough is enough. feed him what your friend fed him. play with him as much as possable he might be nervous to his new home so don't be sad if he doesn't come up to you and maybe don't try to chase him to pick him up and pet him. let him get use to his new home and he will love you.
