i hate the astro-turf down now, but i have not seen any examples of vinyl tiles being used on any flooring co. websites. is this generally not done? there are some nice faux stone tiles i think would look great, just want to make sure there isnt some simple reason why you dont do this. i live in hawaii, so no temp. changes all year. this is for my 3rd floor condo patio (14'x9.5') shade 70% of the day

i would not go with vinyl tile because they will fade badly in the sun and if they get too warm the adhesive will ooze out between the tiles. the only ones i could think of that might work is the ones the put on garage floors but they are more costly. there are a few companies that make a flexible sheet vinyl that doesn't have to be glued so the could expand and contract with the heat of the sun and the cooler temps at night .... i worked in floor covering for 10+ years but this is only my personal opinion

I would think that vinyl tile would be slippery if something were spilled on it and also the adhesive could become pliable and ooze or the tiles may slip. Also because they are individual, water can collect at the seams, causing bubbles in hot sunny weather and even lead to mold and mildew. Have you thought about using ceramic tile? It would look great, be durable and are almost as easy to do yourself. You'll just have to rent a tile cutter.

Good luck

=== please do not use vinyl/ linoleum floor covering on top of those tiles --- you would be better off to use carpet --- the best thing you can do is get new tile on the floor --- if you cover those existing tiles with vinyl it is a mistake and you will have wasted those $$$$pounds ---- the vinyl floor covering will show every crack in the tiles as it wears into the floor .... please consult t with a flooring Specialist for some free bids on the types of floor coverings available ... bet you find that the new tile is the winner because of the long life and the best looks ...........

Go for it. The cost alone is worth the risk. Vinyl stick tiles are super inexpensive and durable! Plus if you get sick of the look, you can tile over them again.
