While the Bible is the Word of God, it was written down by a number of men over a period of several centuries. These writers had different backgrounds, writing styles, and gifts, and all these differences are reflected in the writing.

If two or more writers discuss the same event, one might include details that another omits. Additionally, different writers present the subject matter in different ways. One might write it down chronologically, while another might follow a different arrangement.

Because of the difference in style and writers especially on the same subject it may seem to be contradictory but it is not. Often, apparent inconsistencies can be resolved if we just look at the context.

The Bible contains enough information to enable us to recognize it as more than merely a human work. Any variations it contains prove that the writers were truly independent witnesses. On the other hand, the outstanding unity of the Bible demonstrates without any doubt its divine origin. It is the word of God, not that of man.

By explain, do you mean "point out" or "do away with"?

If you're interested in identifying some of the flaws or contradictions in the Bible, you might start with Thomas Payne's "The Age of Reason." Written by one of America's founding fathers, it points out some of the concerns that continue to bother non-Christians who read the Bible even today.

If you're looking for someone to "explain away" the Bible's contradictions, then simply ask any fundamentalist Christian. If he believes in a literalist reading of the Bible, he will be able to provide or invent a rationalization for any concern you might have. He has to! After all, if he couldn't rationalize away the problems, how could he continue to believe that the Bible was infallible?

There have been some places that appear to be contradictions.
Thorough investigation has always led to the contradiction being due to poor translation and misinterpretation.

Unfortunately a "joker" named King James didn't like the way the Bible was translated. It contradicted the way he wanted to live. So he had the translators rewrite the things he didn't like. Thus we have the Authorized King James version which DOES have contradictions. But.. as noted... its due to mistranslation, by order of the king. Not due to the original Hebrew and Greek sections contradicting each other.

I thought the same thing before I started studying Islam. Now I understand that its not so much contradictions it's errors from being passed down word of mouth and various translations, with ommissions of certain verses depending on the version. But I will tell you the Bible speaks truth.

I am a Muslim-convert and I study the Bible daily.

Questions reveal truth.

If you look up "skeptics annotated bible" online and find that site, you'll find listed all the contradictions you could possibly want.

There are not just contradictions (I think several people pointed out where you can find those). But also flat out falsehoods, lies, and deceptions galore. So much for it being the words of a god.

hasn't this question been asked a million times?

I mean, I don't want to shoot you down or make you feel bad, but I'm sure I've seen this question (almost word for word) like three times at least.

You can probably find some answers by searching for this question. It'll be quicker and you won't have to lose points for asking it.

There are none. Only discrepancies that can be explained if the entire Bible is taken into context.
