Specifically, how do we create a better understanding and greater tolerance between religions? I realize this is an extremely difficult question, but I would like to hear suggestions and thoughts on the subject.

Thanks in advance!

I should add that I am a 9/11 survivor and though my questions is highly-complex in nature, we have to find some common ground so we can live safely and peacefully. (Which seems to truly be an impossibility!)

I don't hate Muslims, far from it! But we have to repsect everyone's faith and that includes religious tolerance across the board.

By doing what you are doing- Communicating. We are all human, we are all children of Adam (if u are religious- you really believe that!) I try to talk to people of all faiths just to ease the tensions- the media is doing a wretched job and I dont think it gives the nearly 2 billion Muslims in this world a chance to show how most of us live and most of us think... Just keeping that communication (minus the hatred and the judgement of each other and the finger pointing) it will help better the world we live in.

The complexity of your question requires more than random thought expenditure. There is so much ambivalence in the waning efforts attempting to achieve a peaceful resolution.

The divide is now so great that only capitulation from either side will settle this problematic question. The paucity of common ground makes a pragmatic and enduring peace unachievable.

The insatiable desire to destroy an entire race is an offence to all of humanity. The diplomatic efforts are stale and military strikes will only strengthen the impasse.

If we removed all religion from the equation and increased the standard of living in the Middle East as provocative as it may sound, could be a starting point for some semblance of peace.

As long a fathers teach their sons hate, peace will never be enduring and preaching hate, intolerance in any religion is and will always be antagonistic.

Fighting over the philosophy of two men long since dead seems very pointless.

Peace

Two things need to be done: first, get the Neo-Cons out of office. The Neo-Cons are the force behind our involvements in foreign wars all over the globe. We need to mind our own business. Other nations resent the US for intervening in disputes around the world. We are not the world's policeman, and we need to beware of foreign entanglements.

Secondly, we need to purge the Liberals from our public arena. The Liberals have been working to change our common culture from one that was based on Christian ideals (which is not that far from the values of traditional Muslims), to a culture based on hedonism. Abortion, homosexuality, pornography, and other signs of decadence are not acceptable to traditional Muslims (or traditional Christians).

And there you have it. What has alienated the Middle East is a foreign policy based on intervention in the affairs of other nations, and the perception that we intend to export our decadence to their lands. It's almost as if it were planned.

I think the biggest threat to survival is religion. Religion is a mind virus, and what do you do to cure a virus, kill it's source. I think the source of all religion intolerance in the world is a city, the city of Jerusalem. Why can't the three main religions share that city? But they act like children so they can't. Then no one should get the city. You evacuated everyone out of the city because you are going to destroy it. I mean nuke it, turn it into glass and make it uninhabitable for 1000 years with all the radiation. Then no one can have Jerusalem and force everyone to grow up.

It will never happen. Too big of a money maker and western values and ideas threaten most middle easterners' religious lifestyle. As long as there is oil over there, then no. They hate our guts but they like the billions the US gives them in aid per year.

You'd be surprised by how easily this conflict can be resolved. The invention of the electric car has been purposely suppressed so that the oil cartels can rule the world. They don't want to lose any money.

(You thought that I was going to say something like: nuclear warfare or something like that, eh?)

as someone here already stated a better media source would be much more helpful.
but basically everyone needs to know the truth.
because right now the truth is a little lost.

no longer something, they hate us, they have a diverse view on each little thing we do, the in reality way for them to love us is for us to transform to Islam. soliciting for universal reliable family members there (we do have some international locations there that like us) is like asking the Klan and u . s . of Islam to enable their babies date one yet another.

unfortunately, there is no compromise.
the west is not at war with Muslim extremists, but they are at war with us.
I keep hearing the west say "how can we compromise? what would you like from us?"
I hear the response from these extremists "We want you all dead."
so where is the compromise? Probably kill them first -- because we are by far a better civilization -- and let Allah sort it out.

Better media sources can be a VERY good start, I guess.
