When you make the rules it has to stick and grounded is grounded and that means absolutely nothing but school unless an emergency arises. Because it's teaching nothing if you don't make it stick.

When I grounded my children, they were grounded from family and friends, phone, tv, stereo for at least two weeks. By then, I had time to check with teachers to see if any improvement was being made on grades, homework assignments, class participation, etc. Attitude was another thing that was not tolerated when they were grounded. My children were about 11 yrs old when they decided to try me and after one or two groundings, well, they graduated from high school in the top 10 in the class. Chores were also given during these times which made them more responsible with the learning process.

Hi, well when my son is grounded he is still allowed to go to his dads and grandparents house but of course he is still grounded at their homes as well we all just work together, so when he goes for a visit he knows the same thing at home follows with grounding no matter what.

Chow.

Wow! Grounded for ONE "D"?? What were the rest of the grades like? Is she really struggling in this one class. Just seems a bit harsh to me, but it's your child.
I would say grounding means taking away things kids enjoy, and unless it was a special occasion, or she was going with you all as a family I wouldn't let her go.
Really?? ONE "D"??!!

I would say that it depends on the family event.

If it's a family function, I think she should be able to go. Family is very important and it wont serve her any lessons to learn that a punishment is not to be able to see them.

If it's just to hang out or for a general visit, then I say no, you are right and that she should be grounded. A family function is one thing, but just for a casual lunch is another.

grounded is grounded unless it is an event that would hurt the person the event is for by her not attending, like her grandmothers 90th birthday party or something
