My sister in law and her husband moved right nextdoor to some missionaries (elders) a few months ago, and started going to the church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints.(some might think thats great) But the problem is that this couple is kind of like the jelly of the month club.(they never stick with things) So after visiting with the church awhile they got baptised and her husband was considering joining the ministry. Now not even 2 and a half weeks later they are already showing the pre-signs of bordum. It doesnt help that no one in their families have shown any support,(lots of casting judgments) but these guy seem hopeless.
I told her I love her and support her no matter what, but that I thought they needed some more time to decide to get baptised & that this wasnt something to be taken lightly, she said I know and giggled. I feel so strongly about my faith, and to have her be so none shelaunt about it really concerns me. They dont even really fathem that their Mormons now!

Well really they should have done more research and gotten more background on what organized religion they wanted to fallow.Just picking one because your neighbors think you should isn't the best way to go.Baptism shouldn't be taken lightly.Nor should you go into it not knowing what it really is.Opening your heart to GOD isn't hard but you really should have more respect and understanding of your actions.

the Mormon religion is a cult.
They believe that:
Adam is our god
After he died Adam became god of earth.
When we die we will be gods of our own planet
You can be baptized for dead people
Black people were former demons-although has been recanted for obvious reasons.
you can be married in heaven if you go through a ceremony here on earth and more.
As for REAL baptism. Everyone in the bible that heard the gospel, accepted Jesus then repented were baptized Immediately!
Acts 2:41 - "That day" 3000 were baptized.
Acts 8:36 - "What hinders me from being baptized?"
Acts 9:18 - "Immediately … he arose and was baptized"
Acts 16:33 - "…the same hour of the night … immediately he and all his family were baptized"
Acts 22:16 - "And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins…."

this is something that you cannot fix.they have to make informed decisions when it comes to their faith.do they not understand that joining a church is not something to do because my neighbors go there or because they are bored.pray that their eyes might be opened and that church is not a social club.it is about changing your life and getting right with the lord.baptism is an open display to let the world know that they wer once in darkness but came into the marvelous light it is symbolic of cleansing them from sin.there sins are buried and they come up washed in the precious blood of the lamb.maybe you should explain these things to them.if they dont recieve what you are saying what can you do.continue to pray.amen

baptism isn't always dependent upon how well you know the Bible. some Christian denominations have certain requirements, but others don't.
primary question would be -- why do you want to be baptized? do you know what baptism means?
typically, baptism is a public announcement of identifying with Jesus Christ. according to the Bible, baptism is NOT required for salvation. the baptism described is one that comes from the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 4:5)
baptism for Christians is different from baptism for LDS. what LDS believes about who Jesus is, is radically different from Christianity.
incidentally, LDS does not believe in the Trinity, they believe Jesus is a created being, they believe Jesus and satan are spirit brothers, they believe that God (the mormon god) was once a man and became god.

After you accept Jesus as the Son of God , your Savior and Lord that came to die on that cross for you and rose on the third day....then be baptized. If you were sincere when you accepted Jesus and decide to follow Him things will change and you will notice some big differences. It doesnt matter how long you study and baptism doesnt save, Its just the commanded symbolic public declaration you give to show you have repented of your sins and accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior.

Biblically Baptism came directly after being Saved. Jesus was accepted and into the water you go. Of course in Biblical times there was no flavor of the week with religion.

None, you should be baptized once Jesus has been made known to you and then kept in the ways of the Lord by they who are witnesses to your Baptism.
Matthew 28
19Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

You have a lot of nerve accusing others of being judgmental, when you're over here criticizing your own relatives, and referring to them as jelly of the month people who never stick with anything. Talk about being a hypocrite.

that's different for each person...it's when a person understands the reasons for being baptised. Just try and support them as much as possible.

you don't really need to study the bible to be batised, all you need is faith in christianity and accept Jesus as your saviour. Once you are saved you should be baptised.
