In the Old testament, Leviticus 11, the people were told what animals/birds were considered unclean. Basically, it comes down to scavengers are unclean because they eat all kinds of nasty stuff so why would we want to put that in our bodies? This law was given to God's people before there was ever a "Jew" because unclean animals went on the ark by 2's (no one was going to eat them so they didn't need more) and clean by 7's.

Many Christian groups believe it is OK to eat whatever they want, but a careful study of the scriptures they use to prove that point just don't add up to the answer they've come up with.

Seventh-day Adventist Christians believe the law of clean & unclean meats still aply. Even taking it so far as saying to revert back to the original diet God intended for people - fruits & vegetables (Genesis 1:29). To support this is the theory that meat is more degraded/diseased than it was even a hundred or so years ago.

unclean: camel, rabbit, pig, fish w/o fins & scales, eagle, vulture, raven, hawk, bat (There's a lot of others, and general rules to go by if you want to look up Lev 11)

Hindus - beef is a taboo, though most Hindus are vegetarian anyways
Muslim _ Pork and pork related products. However shell fish, camel meat etc which isnt kosher is allowed
Jews_ pork, shell fish, fish without scales, owl, camels etc. taboo and they have an extensive list of permitted (kosher) and forbidden foods. For a compehensive listing I think the book of Deutoranomy
The Buddhists are allowed to eat whatever they want. But many opt to be vegetarian.
Jains do not eat any meat or any root vegetables as they believe when uprooting root vegetables many micro organisms and insects get killed.

Muslims do not eat: pork, meat that is not halal, meat from animals that do not have hoofed feet ( I guess that's the way to put it), fish without scales or most shellfish. No alcoholic beverages.

We do eat most anything else including sheep, cow, chicken that are halal. Love rice and spices also. I also love deserts.

In the Islamic religion, there are things that people avoid eating.

For example: Pork, gelitan, dead animals (by that, I mean an animal that has died before it was slaughtered), and anything that is not clean.

As for drinks, then they don't drink wine or anything that gets a person drunk.

Hope that helps a bit.

Peace.
