If you have a cavity and your dentist says it can't be fixed, then it is time to have it pulled before infection sets in. If you do have an infection, take antibiotics before trying to get it pulled because an infected tooth makes it very difficult to numb the area (the acids in infection actually counter the effects of numbing medicine). If your dentist tells you a filling won't work and that you need a root canal that would at least save the tooth. However, a root canal is expensive, but talk to the dentist about your options before deciding to have a tooth pulled.

Only when it starts to hurt, then it's a serious prob.. That means the cavity has reached the roots, and chances are you won't be able to save the tooth.
