I was raised like that too.
What will happen is that your son will believe God probably does not exist. Because there are far more rational explanations for things. But he may turn a little towards religion to help explain the things that are not easily explained. Unless some evangelist gets to him first or his schoolteachers can't teach. Any child raised in a neutral environment and given education will doubt God. That's why the vast majority of Christians, Muslims, hindus are born into Christian, Muslim, and Hindu families. As your boy was born into a neutral one, he followed the logical explanations most people do (science) without the Sunday-night religous feel that is forgotton on Monday.
Your boy has a heart. But as biology clearly explains, that merely keeps him alive. His mind is what is doubting a doubtable God. If he does find religion, good for him. But the chances are he will shy towards agnosticism or atheism. Agnostics are not sure of the existence of God.
Don't listen to the bigots.

When we talk about the knowledge of God being written in the heart we are talking about the Law of Human Nature, best compiled by C.S. Lewis in Mere Christianity. This law is talking about morales, a conscience, and the presence of universal truth. Every man knows good from evil (which doesn't mean they always choose good), they are subject to the laws of the Universe and at some level they know it. Christians are also talking about common sense that can be found in the Psalms when David says "the heavens declare the Glory of God..."

I'm curious as to how you would expose him to atheism. Seems to me that the act of not telling him about or allowing him to be exposed to God would be exposing him to atheism anyway.
I'm also not sure what you mean by heart. The beating organ or is it in the sense that one athlete has more heart than another. The last one somewhat represents a Christians viewpoint.
Believe me, one day every man faces a moment of choice or decision. Just like you have. Now it's a matter of what goes on in that heart of his that determines how he reacts to the information he just received.

Unless you kept him locked in a closet (without any posters of God or Charles Darwin), and never let him out, and never spoke to him....then I don't have a clue what he'd believe about God (other than that God may have forsaken him.) But by you trying not to expose him, and answering his questions truthfully as you said, that exposed him to your version of the truth. (With a battle of truths between Atheists and followers of God going on, you are bound to have some opinion in the matter, therefore it is impossible to give him a neutral atmosphere for your little experiment.)
Whether you know it or not, you exposed your son to your own beliefs, and he is bound to have heard one of his friends say something similar, which subliminally effected his beliefs on the matter. I would like to be the first to say that, your boy's gonna live...he does in fact have a heart.

He picks up on your thoughts and feelings.
My mother was into the new age religion when I was a kid. For some reason I didn't buy it. I didn't believe in reincarnation as she did. I knew there was a God. I felt him. Not sure why. I later became a christian when I was in my 20's. So I wasn't raised Christian.

the law is written in their heart so they instinctively know right from wrong. His sheep hear His voice. Sometimes they come at age 6 and some at 99. You never know. I was 33. Jesus knocks and when He does, open the door.

Sure he has a heart. What he lacks is knowledge, because you have been negligent in your duties as a parent. Is this how you have approached all aspects of his education? Being careful not to expose him to either truth or untruth??

Your boy has a heart, he'll figure out his own way. It's probably not a bad idea, teaching him neither so that he finds what works best for him and his needs.

He is going to pick ideas up all over the place. What you need to teach him is the truth is inside and if something "feels" wrong to him then it probably is. I commend you... answer with the truth, never stop doing it and your child will shine light on all the world.

Don't pay any attention to the Christians. A child who is taught nothing of religion will be an Atheist for it's whole life. This is good.
