I can see by the avatar you're a guy, so that helps me. Chances are your dry areas are around your cheeks and beard area and you have excess oil on your forehead and nose. This is called "Combination Skin" and it's something most people have. What you must first do is address both problems simultaneously with mild products that won't strip but also won't make you greasy. It helps to use a mild milky or lightly foaming cleanser that's easily rinsed away, then follow with a light scrub (none of that apricot or walnut shell powder stuff - they're too harsh and can cut your skin!) twice a week. Then apply a water-based sunscreen during the day and a thicker skin cream to only your dry areas and under your eyes at night.
Another excellent way to go is to find a good skin care salon or spa in your area and they'll be more than happy to help! Guys need to take care of their skin just as much as women, or they'll be wrinkly and unattractive when they get older, too. Some good product lines to try are from Dermalogica, Glymed, DHC, and Neutrogena.

To help prevent it, I use Clean & Clear Morning Burst. I use it every morning and it helps clear oil and impurities that build up on my face while I sleep. Plus it wakes me up, no joke!
Good luck! =]
