For a science project i have to build a struckture that wont break when i drop it from 10 feet. I can only use round toothpicks and wood glue. The glue cannot be used as padding and the sructure can only be 8 inches long. Any ideas?

What you are looking for is a structure that will dissipate/spread energy upon impact so that is will distribute a force equally on the egg. When you squeeze an egg with your palm, you will find it hard to break. But if you apply pressure on a concentrated area of the egg, the shell breaks.
Think of a truss, bridge structure with alot of steel members on it leaning and connected to each other. Think of designing something that will "share" the force through. Usually, the pyramid works for this type of assignment- but you need to know how to calculate the physical center of the pyramid.
And holding the toothpicks together with glue - a hairdryer will help it set in place.
Hopefully, this will set your design wheels in motion. I can't answer this exactly as that would defeat the purpose of your assignment. Good Luck.

more toothpicks near the egg...less as the structure is built..
this will allow the toothpicks to break on the outside of the structure which will slow the speed of the egg as it hits the ground...like a crash zone that is built in to a car...
