I am applying for a job as a Community Service Officer while I go back to school for my degree in a few weeks. I have no criminal record, never been arrested, done volunteer work, never been fired, pretty much a normal, helpful, law abiding citizen in most ways.

The only problem is my driving record. Since 2001, I have had 1 accident for which I received a careless driving citation, and took the court ordered course for it. I have also received 5 speeding citations, 4 Unlawful Speed(all but one were less than 10 mph over limit), and 1 Speed In Excess Of Posted Maximum. For 4 of these, I completed the courses and no points were assessed. For 1, I paid the fine, and as of current I have only 3 points on my FL License. I have also received 4 Improper Equipment citations, not for faulty equipment but for neon lights, turn signal color, etc.

I have a great resume and an outstanding personal record, but what are the chances that my driving record will keep me from getting the job?

Any crime whether it is small traffic or serious misdemeanors can affect your job prospects, that being said, it is all in how you word your answer when they ask you about the crime. Be prepared to answer for each citation. We were all your and drove fast when we first got out license, we all got in accident when we were learning to drive. Neon lights now that would be something that no future cop should ever have. Just kidding. You will be fine there are so many agencies out looking for people you will find one that will hire you. Just be truthful, and remorseful. Good luck!

I had a buddy who ws denied employment after completing his Police Academy training because of too many traffic tickets. However, this was in Long Beach. Your jurisdiction may not have as many applicants, and tickets may have little impact on their decision.

Good luck!

Of course it does, it shows that you have a propensity to disobey traffic laws. This definitely does NOT bode well for you.

once you've a criminal record, do no longer take the classification, it is going to likely be a waste of time. no man or woman (and that i advise no man or woman) will employ someone that has drug appropriate, battery appropriate, family members appropriate, or legal appropriate prices.

yes many departments would not hire you because of this, it does not automaticly stop you in others.

But remember you are going against anywhere from 100 to 200 for any one opening, so any issue can hurt your chances.
