This doesn't exactly answer your question, but I saw a dermitologist on television (on one of those makeover shows) and she said that if you splash cold water on your face 15 times in the morning and again 15 times at night, your face will regulate itself and you won't have the dry skin anymore. I'm not sure if it really works because I have the opposite problem: I'm trying to make my face dry. But you could always give it a try... tap water is cheaper than any lotion that you'll find ;o)

The good thing about flaky skin is that the flaked-off skin is dead skin and new skin underneath is coming out. Using the scrub is good as it helps exfoliate. At night, smear petroleum jelly (Vaseline) over the dry areas to help moisturize and coat the areas. Also, increase your water intake to help "moisturize" from the inside out.
A dermatologist may be able to prescribe a stonger, medicated moisturizer to help cut down on the flaking.
Hope this helps ! :)

I have the SAME problem!!!
I apply Lurbriderm extra-dry lotion on my whole face twice a day (morning and night). In the morning I use Clean & Clear Morning Burst, to remove oil and impurities that build up over night. I find that this also helps scrub dry skin off (but that may be just me lol). Hope this helps and good luck!

if you have sensitive skin, don't scrub too much. You can tell you're overdoing it if it starts to hurt, feel tight, or makes your face turn red. I got actually crusty skin for a long period of time last year, and if it goes for more than a month, you probably want to go see a doctor to see if it's exczema. You also should read the ingredient labels on whatever facial product you're using. If it has methylparaben, propylparaben, anything ending in paraben, propylene glycol, polyethylene, or enything starting with PEG, or anything with alcohols or acids, it could be irritating your skin.

It definitely sounds like it could be rosacea or maybe your skin is reacting to your face wash or lotion. Have you changed that recently? It could also be due to a change in weather or your diet. I would start first with what you dr. said. Did he tell you any treatment options? There are some antibiotics that may help but there are no known cures for rosacea. I would ensure you are using a gentle cleanser like Cetaphil and also very little to no makeup. If you do wear makeup ensure it is something that will not clog your pores, like mineral makeup ie: physicians formula.

Your scrubbing it to much and drying it out. Apply vaseline daily on the troubled area and that will help. Do not use really hot water either when you wash your face that will dry it out too. I use vaseline when my face dries out. When it gets better use Johnson and Johnson Baby Lotion all over your face and it will help too. If you use make up don't for awhile give your skin time to heal make-up will dry it out too. Hope this helps. Y

I use St. ives Aloe vera cream for extra dry skin. I get really dry skin on my face in the winter sense I moved to Ontario and this cleared it up quickly. I wash my face in the morning and put some on then I wash it again at night then apply it again.
I have really sesitive skin, and alot of skin allergies and I havn't had any adverse reactions to this cream.

Perfect solution: Use sandpaper and gently rub around the area. this removes dead skin and flakes so there not a layer of dead cells. I strongly recommend neutrogena norweigh. it's about $12 and its small, but its the best i've ever used. it sinks into your skin instead of leaving a layer of moisturizers on top of your skin like most products do. because you used the sandpaper on your skin, the lotion can go into your skin faster and goes in your LIVE skin, not the dead flakes!
