I had origionally wanted to get a stun gun but they are illegal in New York. I want something more powerful for protection in my home than pepper spray. What process do I need to go through to be allowed to have a firearm?

If you're in NYC, then you have to apply through the NYC Police Department Licensing Division. You will have to fill out an application, pay a fee and explain why you want to have a pistol permit.

The permit if granted will detail specifically exactly what you're allowed to do with said firearm. Ex: travel in a locked case to/from shooting range, carry permit on you, if stopped advise Officer that you have a firearm in vehicle but also have a permit.

i'm right here in upstate ny..... fee's?...... figure about $250 to $three hundred relying on the county...... hid carry?.... very virtually no longer achieveable to get!..... except you may convince a choose you opt for a hid carry enable then it ain't going to ensue...... they're going to provide a sportsmans enable, one for artwork (to carry) or perhaps a enable for merely your position........ Even my pal's that artwork for an armored motor vehicle provider might want to placed there guns away on the top of there shift..... They cant carry after artwork..... also in a great number of county's in ny there's a decrease back log of people utilizing for a enable..... In my county the jerk-off head of the sheriffs dept took most of the workers away that deal with helps making it very virtually a year or extra to get a enable...... In some countys its a lot less puzzling to get a hid carry enable, yet no longer in maximum.....

It is next to impossible, unless you have the right connections to get a carry permit from New York City, or even New York State for that matter.

Go into the gun store, hand them the amonut of cash required to purchase the firearm and ammunition you need. If anyone gives you crap, cite the 2nd Amendment.
