Staying true to yourslef means that first of all you must know who you are: your likes, dislikes, convictions, beliefs.

And that NO MATTER what or who you stick to those convictions & beliefs.

This can be positive and negative.

In staying true to yourself you may be seen as being
1. as stubborn as a mule,
2. a fantatic,
3. close minded,
4. a fool,
5. extremely reliable and trustworthy.

Ironically, being true to yourself you might not even care.

To stay true to yourself really just means that you are honest with yourself about who you are. Such as if you were preppy, and you kept telling yourself you were a goth. That is an example of NOT being true to yourself.

Do what you think is right.

Do not let other people make you do things.

If you do something cause a friend wanted you to do it, but you knew it was not right to do it - you would not be true to yourself.

It means to do what is right for you. Don't force yourself to be something other than yourself for the approval of others. For example, becoming an accountant to please your parents instead of an artist.

Only you can determine what intrigues you, satisfies you, excites you, depresses you, angers you, inspires you. Do what makes you happy, and stand up for your own beliefs. Never let someone else tell you what to think.
