I know a 17-year-old guy who has a stressful situation at home. In the past couple of days he has sort of "blacked out" a couple of times. It's not like passing out. It is when he gets real emotional, then when he sits down or lays down, he just sort of seems zonked like he can't wake up for a few minutes. When someone tries to wake him up, its hard for him to get back awake. Is this even considered a "black out" or is it just sort of mentally shutting down?

Yes, I think this is possible, he can't take what is going on around him literally so he is blacking out.

I have the same problem right now. He should go see a doctoer first of all. Secodndly being stressed out a lot caouses the chemicals in your body to get unbalenced. And he can't controll what is happining and when he lies down his body is telling him take it easy and go to bed it will help his brain relax and recoup inself. Also sense he is having troubles at home he could just be really upset and don't know how to handle the situation and when he blakes out he dosn't have enough energy to do it and he needs to take a good night sleep and relax and try if he can ovoid or stay away for awhile until the situation at home goes away.

Hope I helped!

Yes i only blacked out once, it was so weird, i dont know why, my vision just fuzzed and my hearing buzzed and I couldnt walk, but someone carried me to an air conditioned room and i was better. If they are rly stressed yes they can pass out. However what your describing is not rly passing out, I do that too, i sort of phase away, it does calm me down when i feel like im gonna explode.

i've never physically blacked out from stress...but i do get overly emotional a lot of the time and sometimes get to the point where i do something without thinking or knowing why im doing it..and sometimes don't remember doing it afterwards...i dont know if my mind just blocks it out cause i'm embarassed or ashamed of what i did...but its not as severe as the guy you're talking about.
