My family consists of my parents who are 57 and 51, my brother who will be 21 at the time and myself at 18 years old. I'm planning our vacation for this summer and we're taking a Royal Caribbean cruise somewhere in the Caribbean--probably the western islands. It's our first cruise but we have no idea which ship is a good choice since there are so many of them..any suggestions?

or even a different cruise line if you think a different one would be better for my family.

I would say any of their Voyager class ships--these include the Explorer, Adventure, Navigator, and Mariner of the seas. Also I heard the Freedom is great. I have been on a 7 cruises and the Adventure of the Seas was favorite, however it sails the southern Caribbean out of San Juan, Puerto Rico. The best thing to do is find a destination you want to go to and go from there.

Royal Caribbean is an excellent choice, unfortunately in the summer there aren't as many options to the Caribbean to look at with them.
Royal Caribbean's newest and largest ships are the Freedom class, this year that class includes Freedom of The Seas and Liberty of The Seas (beginning in May). They are truly destinations themselves with the FlowRider surf simulator, mini-golf, ice skating rink, rock climbing wall, basketball court, and more. Freedom class ships are sailing alternating Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries out of Miami. However, a cruise on one of the Freedom class ships can be expensive compared to some of your other options.
A very good option would be a ship from the Voyager class. Voyager class ships are smaller than the Freedom Class, but have almost everything that the Freedom Class does. Instead of the FlowRider, Voyager class ships have an inline skating track. A cruise on a Voyager class ship can be a bit cheaper than one on a Freedom class ship. Adventure of the Seas is offering 7 night Southern Caribbean sailings from San Juan this year. While Mariner of The Seas offers 7 night Eastern Caribbean Sailings from Port Canaveral.
Royal Caribbean moves the bulk of their fleet out of the Caribbean in the summer with their ships headed to Alaska and Europe.
Call a travel agent to help you out, in particular one that specializes in cruises. I recommend Cruise Planners at 888-286-9827, they are extremely knowledgeable and very experienced with Royal Caribbean. They have the same rates and specials as Royal Caribbean and all of the online travel sites, plus they don't charge any fees.

Hi..I love to cruise. My choice for Royal Caribbean is "Adventures of the Seas" it is one of the biggest cruise ships (of all the cruise lines) with SO much to do for ALL ages. Carnival Cruise Lines also has nice boats , they are not as big but I find them to have more fun activities. Most rooms in all cruises are basically the same size. Also don't forget to check out the excursions on the islands you go to ...those can be really fun. Be safe & have a fun vacation!!!

I just went on an Eastern Caribbean cruise with Royal Caribbean. I went on one of the newest ships...Jewel of the Seas. It was BEAUTIFUL!!!!! I was so impressed! And it's just the right size too, so it doesn't take like 30 min. to walk around the ship. Have fun and enjoy your cruise!!:):):)

I went on Royal Carribean's Navigator of the Seas last summer; it was awesome! The newer ship, Freedom of the Seas, would probably be the best (but might be hard to book, because it is so recent!). We are planning on going on another Royal Carribean this summer!
