I do agree, I got my Dino that way... from Indiana.. This lady's dog ran into Dino's yard to fight with him and he won... and they were going to destroy him so to Illinois he came.

Did they kill it because of ^fear^ or are they just mean spirited=lickety-lackity-licksters?

I DESPISE THEM

I both agree and disagree. If this was just a freindly pet then no I dont agree with the situation. I love animals more than most people can understand. I have a dog that is handicapped and bottle feeding her. But on the other hand I understand if they were afraid for themselves or their children. I have personally threatened to kill dogs in my neighborhood. The neighbor had 13 mastiffs kept in a small (less than an acre) yard. 2-4 were getting out at a time and chasing my 6 year old daughter and myself in our home. Several neighbors and even the officers had the same problem with the dogs chasing them aggressively. If my life or my childs life is threatened by a dog, I am sorry but I would shoot first and ask questions later. Please dont think I am being cold blooded because that is not my nature. I feel that if the dog was friendly then that is just a form of animal cruelty and the person should be prosecuted to the fullest.

why did youre next door neighbor shoot youre dog for ? did you ever ask them why that did that ? well i never heard that store before when i usedo lived in indianapolis . i never seen anybody do that shot another owner dogs for beingin on their yard. you know you can call the police and report it and youre next door can be arrested for doing that. but maybe you can go to the indiana law state court and tell the judge or even hire some one like a lawyer who can help you guys to sent a notices paper to the person who did that to just killed youre dog. if you think indianapolis state really sucks then why you live there first place. or you can move some where else better . that what i did i moved out state last year cause i didint like living there forever and other reason i moved away cause i wanted to live closer to my old friends and live close by my other families . and now iam in college so i want a better life . not staying over there in boring place that doesnt have much to do .

What kind of laws do you have? Our laws say if a dog is in your backyard that is not yours. You either have to find its owner or call the animal control center. If you kill a dog here you go to jail or get sued big time. The only time you can kill a dog is in self defense. Your state has stupid laws if anyone can kill a dog just because it is in there yard. I'm glad I don't live in Indiana.

I agree with that law. If a dog that is dangerous comes after you on your property, you have the right to defend yourself! There have been 2 pits that have run onto our property in the country. I called animal control 3 times to pick them up. I told animal control that we would shoot them the next time they came on the property as the last time I rounded them up for animal control, the big male went for me. There is an Akita across the highway from us that is very agressive, I already told that woman that we would shoot him if he came on our property. People should not allow their dogs to run period! We have the right to protect our lives and our childrens lives if we feel that the animal would attack us.

If the dog was not threatening the neighbors then they were totally in the wrong! If they discharged a weapon in city limits, the police should have cited them for it. But you will also be cited for not having your dog under control.Too bad your Mothers dog had to pay for both your Mom & your Neighbors lack of caring....

If the dog was chasing their chickens (or sheep) they would be well within their right to put the dog down. That is the ONLY time it is legal to do so in any state other than if it poses a threat to a person.

Your mom must be terribly distraught living next to people who would do such a thing. This is why it is so important to keep your dog supervised at all times. There are too many incidents that can happen to a dog that is left to wander off. Unfortunately, death is one of those, and laws protecting them are either not enforced or non existent.

Consider it a lesson learned and next time, keep your pet well supervised at all times.

Generally, the law about killing trespassing dogs applies to dogs that are harassing livestock, or who are threatening/attacking pets or people when they are off of their owner's property.

If you had a livelihood or hundreds (or thousands) of dollars invested in livestock and your herd was decimated by trespassing dogs, you'd be much more in favor of the law.

Regardless, your mother should have kept her dog out of the neighbor's yard.
