texas toast is good, but for a special treat, use cinnamon raisin bread, and put a teaspoon (or 2 depending on how much you are making) of vanilla extract in egg/miilk before beating them.

There are a few that make for great French toast. Diagonally sliced French bread, thick sliced 'Texas' Toast bread. Any homemade or fresh bakery bread sliced thick. A good batter is 2 eggs, cup of fat free half and half and a teaspoon of sugar or Splenda, and a quarter teaspoon of nutmeg, dash of cinnamon. Beat together and dip bread in, flip bread over, and then immerse the bread for a second. Remove from liquid and fry, med. heat, in a flat skillet, lightly sprayed with cooking spray.
French toast is better with powdered sugar than syrup, both both ways are delicious and there are some low sugar syrups out there now. Enjoy!

French or Italian bread comes out really good.

I just made French toast this morning, but I used white bread from the bakery, cut it thick , slit it in the middle and stuffed it with slices of banana. Topped it off with cinnamon OMG was it ever good.
They used to serve this in the Poly hotel at Disney World, not sure if they still do, been a while since I was there.

I like using Challah, it's a thicker bread and makes a fluffier french toast. You get a lot of body to your french toast. If you don't know what Challah is, it is a Jewish type of bread, but you can get it at most bakeries. It is a bread that is loaded with eggs, maybe that is why it makes such a good french toast. A lot of restaurants use it. But, I live in NYC.

Any thick breads are good such as texas toast or french, but I like cinnamon bread. It's really good if you can get in a whole loaf and slice it thick. Also try adding a little vanilla and cinnamon to your eggs. Sometimes I even put a little nutmeg in the eggs.

I like a cinamin swirl texas toast that is day old. The fresher the bread the faster it soaks up the egg which is not a good thing for french toast, you just want the egg to lightly coat the outside so that the insidde is fluffy like a cloud.

Day old homemade. The age makes it a bit dry and able to soak up more of the good stuff. So, the best is a cinnamon swirl bread, maybe made with pecans. What a delightful way to break the fast!

Thicker breads such as Texas toast or french bread works best for me - as long as they're slightly stale. I find bread that is too fresh gets too soggy and it's not as good.

I like brownberry healthnut bread. If you use regular bread and whip the eggs real good to aerate them then shake the skillet while cooking so the toast slides around it thickens so you don't have to use texas toast for thickness.
