go to petfinder.com . You'll have to pay an adoption fee but for the most part, it's money well spent because it enables the rescue or shelter organizations to continue doing what they do. Good luck!

At petfinder.com you just put in your zip code and do an "expanded," search. They will tell you whether the dog gets along with kids and which animals they know it does, or does not get along with.
Different Shelters and Humane Societies have different adoption fees, but you can click on the location and get that information, too.
And, yes, sometimes people are giving them away for nothing (neighbors, at school, etc.) But you don't know what you are getting into if you don't care about breed, etc. Different breeds have vastly different needs.

You don’t care about the age, breed, or size? You'll take anything, as long as it's free? I'll be frank: you shouldn’t have a dog. You have no idea what is required to own one, and you are not ready for the responsibility, period.

please go to a shelter, the fee pays for any shots and fixing the dog has had, would be something you would pay for anyway.
rtemember, you have to have vet bills and pay for decent (don't get the cheap stuff, it makes dogs not grow right, not enough nutrients).
If you want a free dogg, you may not be able to afford one.
PS meduim sized dogs with great attitudes, do not get anything too small.
