I was diagnosed at 20 with IBS...maybe you have VERY mild symptoms of it I guess...but it doesn't at all compare to what I have...usually it is alternating diarrhea and constipation, pain, bloating, gas, nausea, sometimes unbearable pain actually...it may just be in the early stages...you never know! Did you see a gastroenterologist or a family doc. A gastro. doc. should be the one diagnosing this. Hope it helps. But no...20 is not too young. It sucks to have IBS!!!!!!!!

IBS is often diagnosed at your age BUT it's a syndrome not a disease. This means doctors don't understand it very well so you will get different doctors telling you different things. You need to do some research on it and confirm for yourself whether you think the doc it correct. Only YOU know how you feel and only YOU know your body. You can't take anyone's word (even a doctor) unless it feel right to you. Here is some information that may help:

From what you've said I'm not convinced the doctor is right and you should get a second or even a third opinion. If the diagnosis is correct don't despair! You CAN control it. You need to watch what you eat and learn what is a trigger for you as well as be aware when you're under stress. Stay calm and look into it until you're satisfied.
Take care man!

The doc is proabbaly right. It is very annoying but you are not alone. Try not eating milk products- no milk, iccream, cheese, etc.
