The best food I've ever had on a flight would have to be either SAS Business, on a flight from Copenhagen to Tokyo - the most delicious seafood, all tasting as though it had just been caught! Or, I've been fortunate enough to travel business with Singapore Airlines a couple of times between London and Autralia - and the range and quality was of very highest quality! Medium rare sirloin beef, fresh seafood, puddings to die for, and all with easily the best overall service of any long distance carrier in the world.

In economy, I'd have to say Singapore Airlines as well. I've flown with most of the major American, Asian, European and Central & Eastern European airlines - so have a reasonable amount to compare - and Singapore has consistently been the best. Others (e.g.: SAS, Lufthansa, Qantas, United, Virgin) have had their moments - but then you let down the next time with shoddy fare. Singapore is easily the most consistently good, in what is ultimately quite uncomfortable, glorified bus travel!

Airline food can vary enormously even on different flights by the same airline. The Far Eastern airlines, MAS, SIA, THY generally rank high with Quantas and Qatar also getting good reports. This website compares airline quality over a wide range of ctiteria, including food:

I can only compare economy class and airlines that ply South East Asia.

Definitely, Malaysian Airlines; consistent quality. A friend I usually travel with is very picky about food, but still always finishes all the MAS food. Even their cakes for dessert are moist. My favourite is the Lamb Curry with Rice. The lamb was tender, and the curry didn't taste like it came from some pack you can buy at the supermarket. (I like to cook and crush my own spices for my curries, so I am particular).

SIA has great food in Business Class and First Class it seems, but their economy food is of variable quality.

The second choice would be Thai, especially if they fly from Bangkok.

From a smaller sample: Qantas is not great, China Airlines quite bad, EVA is not too bad, especially if you are into Chinese Food. North West and United have similar or worse quality to Qantas.

You can save money on an airline ticket if you give up the idea of eating food while flying and if your flight is four hours or less. I have flown on Continental and American several times. I usually end up with a bag of crackers and a canned drink. I usually eat at the airport before or after the flight. Hope this helps.

I'm with Lily all the way...Singapore Airlines takes the 'Best in Show' on all , counts. I have too many stories to back this up than any of you would care to read, but I did mention in another post the sheer magic of walking up close to the end of a long flight to the smell of your hostie preparing your bacon and eggs on a little spirit stove right beside your head !

Otherwise, filet mignon, lamb chops, shrimp sate, lobster newburg etc etc etc ( fades off keyboard drooling slightly )

Singapore Airlines. I had the best chicken parmigiana I have ever tasted. I also had a chicken noodle stir fry on another sector. I love it because they give you a choice of Asian or western.

Mind you I only flew economy and it was fantastic. I flew business class with Qantas and the food was disgusting!
