A friend of mine caught a six-pack of beer. The beer was tied onto a string by someone and the string broke. The beer must have been on the bottom of the bay for a while since barnacles were on the cans.

I was born and raised in Alaska. When I was about 10. my mom moved my brother and I to Wisconsin. My Dad was still in Alaska.
Fast forward about 15 years, my brother and I were visiting our Dad at the same time (very rare now that we have careers). The three of us were fishing for salmon on a boat out in the ocean. We had caught two nice salmon. My brother strung them on a rope, tied it to a cleat and threw the fish in the cold ocean to keep them fresh.
About 1 hour after catching the fish, we saw a sea lion close to the boat (pretty common as fishermen will throw some fish scraps or a herring their way sometimes). A few minutes later, we saw the sea lion rolling around in the water, eating a nice salmon. Again, this is a common sight (but a cool one so we watched for awhile). we made comments of how the sea lion was doing better at fishing than we were.
About an hour after that, we caught another fish. My brother went to put the fish on the rope. I heard him mutter "what the hell?" or something like that. Here the nice fish we saw the sea lion with was the salmon off of our stringer.
What I thought makes this funny is that a Steller sea lion can get up to about 2500 pounds. The sea lion sneaking up and stealing a fish would be like a cow sneaking within 5 feet of you undetected and getting away.

When I went on a 60 person deep sea fishing trip, I had a red snapper on the line and while bringing it up a shark or baracuda took a bite out of it and when it came up I only had it's head.
That same day I caught a two foot shark and one of the guys working there was taking the hook out and the shark was squirming to break free and one of it's fins cut the guy when he took the hook out and the shark was going crazzy flipping around so the guy beat it over the head on the deck three times. And it swam away safely.

It was my first time fishing at age 5. At the time it wasn't very funny. Dad and I were fishing on a small bridge on an island off the coast of North Carolina. I got a bite and started reeling. I looked over the railing to see what I'd caught. It was a snake! I screamed, threw that rod down and took off running. Of course it was an eel, not a snake.
Have you ever eaten an eel? IMO, they taste as nasty as they look.

it was my first time fishing offshore and i went w/ my friends Chris and Eric and their dad. We dropped down dead threadfin herring for grouper in about 50 feet of water. im watching my rod when all the sudden it just doubles over, the drag is screaming and everyone comes over too look. were all thinkin "its got to be a record, this is huge!!" then the rod just springs back up and is still. We didnt have any idea what had happened, until about a football field away, a manta w/ about a 6 foot wingspan jumps clear from the water, the rod gives one final tug and just sits there. so, as im cranking it in to put new bait on, i get stuck on bottom, so i thought. i jerk as hard as i can and it comes up a little but not all the way. Chris' dad comes over and helps to get it up. when about 5 feet under the surface we saw an old Penn Longbeach combo! my hook was stuck, just in the last line guide i was so lucky! they even let me keep it! i still have it too

I caught a 3 1/2' catfish, and I was just visiting Kentucky, I'm a city boy from Jersey, so I caught the fish and got all scared, and my step-pops tried getting me to hold the fish by its gills, and well it would move and I dropped it OVER and OVER and OVER, until finally we got a picture...
After handling this fish for about 10-15 min. he looks at me and says I'll smell yours if you'll smell mine-So we put eachothers hands in eachothers faces...Classic moment!
And then him throwing stink bait(Catfish bait) at me, and the smell wouldn't leave my clothing...Good times
And me and him killed 12+ beers a piece- down at our dock, and well we have a nice lil' encline to the house, I'm carrying 1 side of the cooler and he's carrying the other leading the way, my balance was so far off, I'd keep falling and tripping anf rolling back down the walk-way...Took a good 15 min to get up to the house, which was only a 1 minute walk :) I miss him, we lost him November this year, so it's fishing by myself now, but god we had good memories!

Well I caught a crawfish and when I let it on the ground it got off the hook and grabbed on my shoe. Then I told me friend to get a pocket knife to cut its arm off becuase it wouldn't let go. By the time he handed it to me, the crawfish let go! Then I just threw it back into the lake.
Another time I thought I "got a big one" but what I really got was a huge log!
My Grandpa one time went fishing and he caught a huge snapping turtle.

I have two. As a kid, I hooked my uncle's hat on my back-cast and flung it out into the Lilly pads. The best, however, was when I was fishing on Indian Lake in Ohio. My dad and I were in one boat, and my uncle and grandpa were in another. My dad hooked a water snake, and knowing my uncle's fear of snakes, he tossed it over into their boat. My uncle started jumping around so much that he fell out and took my grandpa with him.
