My mom said that she lied about her age when we were young because we would tell everyone how old she was! I lie about my age now just to get a good laugh! I know, and my family knows that I'm not 29 anymore, it's just a family joke. My friends know my real age even though I joke about still being 29.

You know what ... I NEVER did cover up my age ... mainly because I knew that I was more than a decade older (and more ...) than the parents of their peers ... so it was quite obvious that I already was "long in the years". (and the grey hair ... well, that is a dead giveaway).
So yes, my children knew how old I was ... I did not see that as a problem.
For others though .. they may be a bit more sensitive (because they were so young when they had their children). So with the increasing age of their children, there may be some insecurity there too about the age.
Quite frankly, just be comfortable with whatever age you are .. no matter what. Age is just a NUMBER, it is your interests, your ability to be active, your willingness to be physically fit, and yes, your willingness to be mentally and spiritually alert that makes the person ... and I know many my age (and older) that make 20 and 30 yr olds look like slugs!

I never understood why people lie about their ages. This is a culture where there's a lot of emphasis put on youth. As people age, many feel they are losing their attractiveness. Lying about your age usually doesn't fool anyone. It only makes the liar look pathetic.
