Almost everyone loves Rice Krispie Marshmallow Treat bars. This recipe for Rice Krispie treats is an older recipe that makes bars which don't fall apart easily (compared to the recipe on today's boxes).
These are always a big hit at work; they're usually gone in record time.

Ingredients

1/4 cup regular margarine or butter

1 6-10 oz. package regular marshmallows (about 40)
OR

4 cups miniature marshmallows

5 cups Kellogg's Rice Krispies cereal

What to do

Place a small lump of margarine into a paper towel and use to grease a 13 x 9 x 2 inch pan, then wipe the pan off with a dry paper towel. This will keep the bars from sticking to the pan when they are placed on it.

Measure margarine into 3-quart saucepan; melt over low heat. Add marshmallows and cook, stirring constantly, until marshmallows are melted and mixture is very syrupy. Remove from heat.

Add Rice Krispies cereal; stir until well-coated.

Spread warm mixture in the greased 13 x 9 x 2 inch pan. Using waxed paper or buttered spatula press firmly into an even layer. (I normally use a butter knife to do this; dipping the knife into a glass of water occasionally will keep the Rice Krispies from sticking to it as you shove them into the pan)

Cut into squares when cool. (This is normally about 10 minutes after placing the mixture into the pan.)

Results
24 2-inch square bars.

"1 or 2 bags miniature marshmallows [diced marshmellows work fine also]
1 tablespoon butter
2 cups Kellogg's Rice Crispy Cereal

Melt butter in a saucepan. Add marshmallows.
Stir until mixture becomes difficult to stir any more. Mix in the Rice Crispy Cereal and stir until hot.
