My boyfriend and I have been talking about getting married and he says he wants to but doesn't have the money to buy a ring. I have told him that i don't care about a ring, but he says he thinks its important. Is he telling the truth or just stringing me along?

It's hard for us to say - you know him better than we do. But I would say he is probably using it as an excuse to avoid marriage. All jewelry stores have financing and offer payment arrangements, where you can put some much money down on a ring, and then pay for the rest of it in monthly payments. Suggest this option, and see if he still hesitates or worse yet, comes up with another excuse. If he still hesitates when you suggest to him that he can make monthly payments, that he doesn't have to pay for the whole ring at once, then I would say he is stringing you along. Best of luck to you.

I am a girl, but I wanted to say that my husband made a very big deal about the ring before we were married. I was surprised, but I think the ring really can be an important symbolic gesture for them. I would guess he has a traditional view of marriage. If not, I guess I would be a little suspicious. Good Luck!

Do you have some reason to distrust him? Has he lied to you in the past? It's possible that he is just scared and buying time, or it's could really be the truth. There are a lot of guys out there who are very traditional and think that the man is supposed to be able to buy that nice ring for the woman they love. It can be embarassing for them to not have the money!

If he's been honest with you in the past, I'd give him the benefit of the doubt and some time. It may be very important to him!

Well, some guys really do take pride and would want to have a ring. If he takes pride and enjoys to do special things for you, that he probly really does want to get marrried, but a ring is important to him.

Although, if hes not so commited... Then your idea of using a ring as an excuse might be right.

Its hard to tell without really knowing the guy, but you just need to have a sit down and tell him how you feel. If he truly loves you then things will work out. If hes not truly commited then its better things unravel now, compared to a divorce down the road.......

I think he's stalling. If he really wanted to commit, he would have done anything to get a ring on time. He would take loans, ask friends, parents, whatever. But stalling for something like a ring is just stalling.

He could be telling the truth. He may find the fact that he can't afford to buy you the ring he feels you deserve to be very embarrasing.

ring is important in a wedding but it's not only about the ring in a marriage?..there might be another reason why he can't marry you(maybe he just can't tell you the real reason)
