It is a matter of agency policy. No agency I have worked for (in CA) has ever had a CD player. However, if they did, whether you could listen to music or not is up to the agency and their policy.

As a practical matter it is NOT a good idea as any kind of distraction like that could result in missing something that is going on around the car. A good cop uses ALL his senses, and not just his eyes.

Do Police Cars Have Radios

I do all the time, I keep it at a low level but I listen to radiohead and other great bands constantly while on patrol. I am not easily distracted, and we have no policies against it. A lot of guys I work with have portable xm radio transmitters too, no biggy at all

well since no car in any dept I ever worked for had a CD player most likely not, they can listen to the FM radio but has to be low, since they have several police radios talking that they have to listen to for calls and for what others ar doing in thier area.

My departments units have AM/FM radios, no CD's, nothing is said unless you ignore radio calls or fail to turn down your FM radio when broadcasting, if in the back ground of a radio call your FM station is heard to often, you might get counseling from your Sgt.

Not anywhere I worked. You are supposed to be paying attention to what is going on around you.

Cops can pretty much do whatever they want. They swear to uphold and defend the Constitution, but most of them can't even tell you what the 1st Amendment is.
