Many of my clients with large areas of psoriasis breakouts on their scalps often get perms. They say that the solutions in perms greatly reduce the discomfort and the red, inflamed appearance of psoriasis. They usually don't get perms with small rods that would produce a tight curl, but use large (lavender rods and larger) rods to just add a bit of wave. An added benefit is that the wave helps to bodify the hair, thus concealing the scalp when breakouts return a few weeks later. You may want to purchase a perm in a drug store that is geared toward bleached, frosted, or colour-treated hair first and dab a very small amount (a few drops to begin) of the waving solution on a breakout that is normally covered by your clothing. Leave on five minutes, rinse very thoroughly, then apply a few drops of the neutralising solution, leave on five minutes, and again rinse very well. This technique works for many of my clients' arm and leg breakouts and may work for you, but PLEASE try a small test area first!
