I'm a dentist.
I've never heard of putting cinnamon on canker sores.
As far as your dentist goes, the fact of the matter is that canker sores and cold sores, despite having different causes and some some very minor differences in appearances, are often indistinguishable from one another. Both canker and cold sores tend to come during times of stress, both are painful, they are similar in appearance, and they tend to take the same amount of time to heal. Furthermore, treatment for them is, with one exception, identical. So don't be so quick to condemn the knowledge of your dentist. You're the one lacking in knowledge here.
The first thing you need to find out is whether or not they are actually canker sores. They could be cold sores (caused by Herpes Simplex Virus-1) that are occurring inside your mouth. If they are the latter, antivirals help a little. Talk to your physician or your dentist about an antiviral such as Valtrex (which is well-known for its use in treating genital herpes). Canker sores, as far as we know, are somewhat autoimmune in nature. Nobody knows for sure what causes them, however.
Beyond that, whether they are canker or cold sores, treatment is palliative in nature (i.e. to make you comfortable). There are some chemicals that can chemically cauterize these lesions and make them less painful. Also, your doctor (physician or dentist) can prescribe something called "magic mouth wash" for you to use. It is quite helpful.

Ive got just the cure. And its extremely amazing. Sometimes the canker sores disappear in like 10 minutes. Buy real honey from a store, or online. Put it in your mouth and just keep it there for as long as possible. Where ever the canker sore is, just put it there. Eventually, you start swallowing some of the honey, but thats okay, its only honey. And every time you have a sore, just keep the honey in your mouth and it will go away. This will actually prevent you from getting canker sores in the future also.

Canker sores are viral so there is no cure, per se. The virus must run its course. There are many reasons that may cause canker sores, namely a weakened immune system. That being said, you might want to try a multi-vitamin supplement high in Vitamin C and B-family to boost your immune system. Try the B-50 from Costco (the B-50 is the name of the vitamin label and not the vitamin itself). I used to have significant outbreaks of canker sores until I took the B-50 from Costco and I haven't had one since.

I got identified with genital herpes (type 2) about 3 years back, whilst I was still in college and had a foolish one-night stand. I know loads of girls say this, but I swear I had never done that sort of thing before. I just made a mistake that one time and all of a sudden it seemed like I was going to have to live with the implications for my entire life. The hardest part was feeling I could never date guys again. In the end, who wants to go out with someone that has sores round her "you know what" area? But since a friend shared this movie https://tr.im/DjSNi everything improved.
Not only was I able to remove all traces of the herpes virus from my body in less than 3 weeks, but I was also able to begin dating again. I even met the man of my dreams and I'm so blessed to write that just a week ago, in front of everyone in a crowded restaurant, he got down on one knee and proposed to me!! This program gave me back the opportunity to be happy and experience real love again. Now I want to help others too by sharing this story.

These are sometimes cause by a bacteria in the stomach - try licorice root tea or better yet see a Naturopath (http://www.naturopathic.org/) they are trained to treat the whole person and not just the symptoms. Good Luck!

Have you tried changing your diet??? My husband is very sensitive to chocolate and food dyes. He removed these items from his diet, and the sores have all but disappeared.

You need to find a different doctor and dentist as yours are not helping you. See someone different for a second opinion.
