I just downloaded this cool movie and i played it with windows media player and it does not play the video(it played only sound)
it says ''ERROR DOWNLOADING CODEC''
PLEASE HELP ME!!

Go to www.download.com and in the search bar type in VLC and when the next page comes up click on the first link and click download.

They usually provide a link to get the Codec (it's just a little file). You might want to try viewing the movie with Quicktime...... Quicktime seems to have more codecs built in it. (Right mouse button click the file and say "open with' and pick Quicktime. If you don't have Quicktime - you should get it anyway - many things only play in quicktime.

It usually tells you what the codec is..... just type it in the 'search' and it should come up with a lot of download sites. Make sure you get it from a reputable site. You just download it and it should self install and then you'll be up and running.

Media Player does not have access to the code/decode software to play the media--It tries to download the Codec (code/decode) from the Imternet for the appropriate media type but could not find the correct file or site the file should be. It could be encoded with DivX. You can download the DivX codec from www.divx.com

try going to the site where you downloaded it ask help with codec and try download again and make sure it is compatable with media player.

That means the video is not compatible with Media Player or the file could be corrupt. I know, it sounds like a waste of time but what else can you do when you get a bad file?

You need a CODEC you don't have. So, go to Google and type in:

free CODEC. you will see many that are all-inclusive. Pick one.

go to google and look for L-LITE codec pack, download and install the full pack, it is free and is the best one to get, it covers nearly all codecs

enter your search on google to downloadl what ever the format your movie is in such as .mpeg,mpeg4,divx,dvd,and ect.codec but i recommend ffdshow
