Your preferences and the type of hunting you do will determine the best for you. In some states, you may only hunt with a shotgun. Some people enjoy hunting with a revolver, but that's somewhat restrictive. If I had only one gun for deer hunting, it would be a 50 cal. muzzleloader so I could hunt that extra time period. But when you talk deer hunting, the talk tends to run quickly to centerfire rifles.
If your hunting is all on the ground in close cover, a carbine chambered for a pistol cartridge like the 44 magnum or the good old rifle cartridge the 30 WCF. These days, though, most people want something a bit more flexible, and most want a bolt-action.
Good calibers start at the 243 Win. and 6mm Rem., which are small enough to mean your shots will have to be selective. The 25 caliber cartridges are probably a little better choice, either 250 Savage, 257 Roberts (probably the best of the quarter bores) or 25-06. Better still are the 6.5mm, 277 caliber, and 7mm types. The 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser and 260 Rem. are great choices, the 270 is the most popular under-30-caliber round in the US, the 7mm08 may be the thinking man's best choice, the 7x57 Mauser has a spotless record, and you simply can't go wrong among these choices. The 30-06 is overly large just for deer, but there's nothing wrong with that if you can shoot it well, and it's most popular, and the 308 Win. is almost identical ballistically. Take your time, talk around and shop around, read what you can from experts, and you'll find there are all sorts of great choices for you.

Good guns to use when deer hunting? A good, scope equiped bolt action centerfire rifle. Nothing smaller than a .243 Winchester. The .25-06 Remington, .270 Winchester and .30-06 Springfield are good long distance deer rifles. A Winchester 1894 or Marlin 336 in .30-30 are good for short range.
Happy hunting.

The answer to this question could easily fill a book, but I will list only a few proven weapons.
Ruger M 77, Thompson Center Encore, Remington 760, Savage 110.
Any one of these brands are outstanding weapons bolt actions and single shots and pump action.
In 308 or 30-06 will do anything you ask of it and not let you down.
There are a lot of other calibers out to choose from but these two are all time favorites.
And for deer you don’t need the big magnums that will kick you senseless.
The big magnums are for big dangerous game, and that not a deer.
The 308 has less recoil then the 30-06.
You can opt for lighter calibers if you really recoil sensitive as in 25-06 or 243 but I would not go any lower then the 243 for a human kill.
Hope this was of some help.

For deer at moderate range there is little practical difference between anything from a 270 up to a 325WSM. 30-30 has killed more deer than anyone knows, 30-06 is entirely capable but not so available any more in my area, 270, 308, 7mm Rem Mag and 300 Win Mag are all common round here. I have a 303 British and a 300 WSM, to be honest they have pretty much the same effect on deer at the ranges I can shoot, a heart/lung shot stops them in under 10 seconds.

I use a .300 Remington Ultra Mag LA, which admittedly, is a lot of overkill for deer unless you're trying 500-600 yard shots. The .270, .30-06, and 7mm Rem. Mag are three of the best whitetail rounds in my book. A good old .30-06 has a ton of knock-down power, great range, and probably the largest selection of rounds in a centerfire rifle.

From personnal experience the remington 7400 in a .270 WIN caliber. Nice flat shooting gun, it may seem some but I've dropped deer right in their tracks with it.
Another one to consider is a .30-06. Its a very common caliber.
It mostly depends on where you hunt and how you hunt.
Tree stand hunting .270 WIN, .308, .30-06 are best. But if you do a lot of walking .30-30 lever-action is very nice. Light weight, 5 to 10 round tube, and effective.
If you have anymore questions on it, drop me line

My Dad gets 1-3 deer every year with his 30-06 so I think you should get one.

.270's are good deer hunting guns and .243 are good guns also but not for brushy areas.

while i like the modern rifles for hunting, i personally use either my M1 Garand (.30-06) or Mosin Nagant M44 Carbine (7.62x54R). yea they may be heavy, but they will get the job done. as far as modern rifles, Remington 700 or Winchester Mod 70 are good. but there are many more out there. many choices to choose from
