Compromising your Christian beliefs and being open minded about the beliefs of non-Christian neighbors are not the same thing. Listening to what other people believe and listening to how and why other people came to believe the things they believe can be a very enriching thing.

I always tell the students I work with that a truly open discussion forces you to articulate why you believe what you believe rather than just living with easy assumptions, which ultimately makes you a better Christian.

I don't compromise my beliefs by being open minded. I can look at another religion, another perspective, and see the positives without changing my own religion. It allows me to better understand someone else's point of view. If a person is so easily swayed to accept another religion be being exposed to it, then he or she was not much of a Christian to begin with.
Remember the question "What Would Jesus Do?" I think he had far more to say about the hypocrisy of the religious leaders, than the beliefs of other religions. Jesus, our example, as well as our Savior, wants us to be grounded in truth. We should be able to recognize the true from the false. Other religions have truths that a Christian can accept without changing or compromising his beliefs. DUH.

Jesus said that he was the truth. (John 14:6). He also said that if you looked for something that you would find it. (Matthew 7:7&8) So if these two things that Jesus said are both true you should be able to look into any teaching and only find Him if you are truly looking to find the truth. Because of this reasoning I cannot answer yes or no to your question. I don't believe it is possible to compromise Christianity by being open to other teachings. In the end you either shut out or receive Christ no matter who the person is who you are denying or receiving. Hear every doctrine with an open mind and with a heart that only desires truth. Then you will discern all things. Then you will see where Christ truly is whether He is in a person's teaching or not.

There is no ONE set of Christian beliefs. If there were, then why are there so many danged Christian factions? The Christian church has been in a huge process of splintering off into countless groups ever since congregations began codifying their belief systems.

One group will say a 'true Christian' gives up worldly possessions and lives a life of service and poverty.
Another group will say 'abundance is my birthright' and will drive expensive cars and talk about how God has blessed them.
Another group will be very concerned about how women in their congregation dress.
Another group will think that 'true' Christianity is represented only by those who are 'baptized by fire' and speak in tongues.
Another group believes that ritual and liturgy is the clearest way to God.
Another group will believe that there should be no musical instruments in church.
And on and on and on and on.

If anyone can identify what a 'true Christian' is then there will be a dozen groups to offer up an opposing viewpoint. And all sides will, most likely, believe they are right.

By saying 'should we compromise Christian beliefs by being open mind [sic] to other religions' you are showing that you believe that your particular sect or denomination is not open to respecting other systems of faith. And yet, there are many other sects that believe that being respectful of other faiths IS being true to Christianity.

I think one leaps into a can of worms whenever one believes that their own belief system is THE ONLY way to God.

And no, I do not believe that Jesus said, "No one comes to the Father except by me." That was a later addition, put into the Bible to draw a line between 'us' and 'them.'

In what way does live and let live compromise Christian beliefs? You can still be open-minded and allow others to have their own beliefs while still being Christian. This is what scares me about some Christians is I'm worried they'll take the "being true" bit too far and end up forcing the rest of us to convert by violence.

I enjoy learning about religion and tradition, together they are almost magical, the depth and nature of them is amazing. I'm a different bag, maybe because I'm an artist...I see it like this, I would consider myself to be a spiritual Christian in tune with my surroundings...and then I have subclasses of religious interests and studies. Some of which are: Buddhism, Northern Paganism, success philosophy, art.

I know that's a unique view but that's it. :)

Most religions do teach that a person should not lie or steal, and so forth. Is this sufficient? Would it demonstrate loyalty to God and his righteous standards if his servants were to embrace in brotherhood those who themselves practice what God condemns and who condone such practices?
2 Corinthians 11: 14 "Satan himself keeps transforming himself into an angel of light. It is therefore nothing great if his ministers also keep transforming themselves into ministers of righteousness? Not everything that originates with Satan appears hideous. One of his chief methods of deceiving mankind has been false religion of all kinds, to some of which he gives a righteous appearance. 2 Timothy 3: 2 Men will be having ... a form of godly devotion but proving false to its power. And from these turn away

How does being open minded compromise your beliefs? Are your beliefs so fragile that you cannot even contemplate that others believe differently?

Christendom has already compromised Christian beliefs by accepting beliefs from pagan religions. Only Jehovah's Witnesses won't compromise and that is why the world hates us, Satan can't break their integrity so he has the world who are lying in his power to persecute us.
