actually the word gastrointestinal means "having to do with the stomach or intestines"! so if someone were to say "man, I'm having some gastrointestinal problems", it means that there is something wrong with their stomach and/or intestines.

gastro probably means stomach and intestinal means to do with the intestines. yes, farts are part of a gastrointestinal process.
