why do dogs eat their waste?

Dogs eat their poop when they are on a bad diet, since their bodies are not fully digesting the protein in the food. They eat their waste to get the remainder of the protein in it. It is also natural because in the wild dogs would eat their feces to cover their tracks.

not all dogs do. I've been told that the ones that do, it's because they are lacking something in their diet. also some people believe that dogs that get their faces smashed into it for having an accident in the house do it although i don't know why that would cause it. i had a dog once that ate hers, other dogs and the cats out of the litter box!!

If a dog eats dog waste it has some kind of deficiency, healthy dogs don't do this. Dogs eat cat poop, and other kinds of animal poop quite naturally, but if they eat dog poop they are sick and should see a vet.

Because there is still protein left in it.

For a puppy.. he comes into realization=what did I just make?

Sometimes they do this so they don't leave their scent for predators that may be out there.

That is just a few... it is not uncommon... just be sure to wait a while before letting your pooper scooper give you a kiss.

i can't answer why, but they do sell a pill that is supposed to make them stop doing this ask your vet about it.

i think they are lacking something. they is medication to give them so they will not do this anymore.
