we've raised this kitten since it was 6 weeks old.. it's 1st birthday was february 14, so its a year now.. in human years..

basically, all this time, we just let our cat live, feeding it, watering it, letting it come up and down from the basement to the main floor, and letting it outside one in a while...

and now.. it seems like we cant teach it anything.. we cant play with it without our cat hershey running away from us..

we never hit or hurt it.. how do we get closer to our cat??? even though its been so long???

Cats need to be around humans for at least 20 min/day to become socialized. You may not be able to make a lap cat out of her at this point.
Enjoy her as best you can, and remember this for future cats.

Nonsense. It's probably not too late to make friends - at least a little bit. Buy yourself a lazer pointer pen and play with your cat. Let her chase the dot around. Make up other games with stuff like balls of crumpled paper, pieces or corrugated cardboard. See if you can get her to play with you. Give her treats once or twice a day. When you see her, look her in the eye briefly and greet her nicely - either by name or with a little friendly cat noise. Sit on the floor and wait for her to come to you. Don't force contact, but she should warm up to you eventually if you show interest in her and are gentle and sweet.
Is she fixed? Is it possible she doesn't want to go near you because she's pregnant.

My friend has a cat like that she will not let you pet her or hold her she is very unsocial. She has been like that since birth. but it isn't because no one has tried it is just the way she is. Her mother is here to but she loves attention. Jinx is the mom and she lets anyone hold her and Whiskers will not even come around you. Who knows why cats do what they do. They are so independent.
But that is why I love 'em

I've noticed that sometimes when a cat can go outside it becomes less social..Indoor kitties have to rely on you for food and fun. That's just my experience

I would just let him come to you at his own pace. Maybe try giving him some treats out of your hand. Make sure you talk to him also. hope this helps

Cats are very aloof.
They do things their own way.
It's just her personality.
