As the other poster said, Hilo would certainly be the most affordable, but job opportunities there are nil.

I suggest the Leeward area of Oahu ... Kapolei, Makakilo or Ewa Beach for starters. Lots and lots of jobs, and as affordable as housing gets in Hawaii.

I live on Oahu, but disagree with the previous poster. Oahu currently has an "effective" 0% unemployment rate. That is, anyone who is looking can find a job. (Officially, the rate is somewhere around 2%). The downside is, most jobs wouldn't pay enough to cover the incredible cost of living ($6 for a gallon of milk, $5 for a box of cereal, $2400 house payment on $450,000 house). But if you have two wage earners, it's possible.

Depends on what you consider oodles. Hawaii is extremely expensive no matter where you are. I have lived in Hilo for 6 yrs, there aren't any job opportunities here on Big Island and most homes (rental with 1250sf) can run from $1000-$2500per month. Decent housing sales run from $280k and up. There is alot of issues for decent education as well. Oahu has the best for job opportunities, but again housing can be an issue. Go to realtor.com and check the pricing. Other than that visit Hawaii, but choose another destination for a move. I am soon going back to mainland and start over.

The cheapest place would be the Big Island, but I doubt it has the "decent job opportunities" you're looking for.
Oahu....forget it! A decent 3 bedroom home anywhere will set you back at least 500,000-600,000 (that's "oodles of money" for me!). Jobs are better in Honolulu, but unless you're a lawyer, physician, or in banking, the job market might be tight.
The other islands are right behind Oahu in cost of living.
Good luck.....seriously!

They're all expensive, but I believe the Big Island is one of the cheaper places. They have University of Hilo on the east coast. I live on Oahu, and I see houses and rent cheaper there than here. There are plentiful jobs on Oahu, but I hear some people take a while to land a good solid job. Depends on your skills. The better jobs in Oahu are in Honolulu, and traffic is crazy to get there if you live out of town. I imagine the Big Island is your best bet.

Kona is a city on the great island of Hawaii; Neither between the islands you stated has lots to do. dissimilar the activities are in Oahu and Maui. in case you are able to't get a flight to anyplace different than the great island or Kuai, evaluate arranging journeys to the different islands once you're there. I havea finished this making use of Roberts Hawaii (cyber web website under) There are 2 airlines in HAwaii, Hawaiian Air and Aloha airlines. the two run commuter form flights all day on a daily basis. you are able to e book your guy or woman journeys to the different islands or use a excursion corporation like Roberts.

the lowest price 3 bedroom 1 bath 1 living room is going to go for 500,000. bobs neighborhs have a ugly *** small 3 bedroom 1 bath 1 living room crappy house, in a decent neighborhood, not by the beach but theres isnt too many chronics and dealers here and they sold it for 750,000.....you cannot live in hawaii with out paying **** loads of cash, even renting is extremely expensive. the cheapest places are going to be public housing, bob grew up in public housing and that is the fucing pits you dont want to live in public housing, plus welfare is gay. public schools in hawaii are all around pretty shitty, like at least 70 percent of public schools here are considered failing, bob only knows 2 public schools on the east side that are passsing and they are two elementry schools out of like 30.
cheapest places are going to be the most ghetto run down places, and depending where bob would suggest not living here at all then living here in the ghetto.
