If its a dvd You can open up windows media player and then insert the disk and press play when your dvd shows up on the screen.

If it is a downloaded movie (extensions like avi, mpg, mp4 ect.) You have to execute the file by double clicking the file you have.
"the_matrix_revolutions.avi" for example and if you have a compatible player like windows media player or RealOne Media player all should just running the movie.

Just rember onces it starts to right click the movie and put it into full screen mode That way you see it all and dont have to see all the play start and stop buttons (which will appear if you move your mouse and dissapear a few second after moving mouse)

Hope this helps you ;)

I would suggest installing a programme called "VLC Media Player". It's free and plays nearly all file types.

Go here: http://www.videolan.org/

PowerDVD is a really good software. I costs $50 but it is well worth it. They probably have a trial of it so you can see whether you like it or not. Just google PowerDVD.
