description,why the are called ranch style houses? when were they exposed

Ranch style means it only has one floor. No upstairs.
They have been around forever as far as i know.

As a general rule, ranch style is a one story house on a slab. But I've seen houses that are raised or 2 story be classified as ranch if there is no other style that fits well (like not contemporary, McM, etc.).

a ranch style house is a house that only has one level above ground. You can have a ranch with a basement though.

They became popular in the late 50's, early 60's. Ranch style is all one floor

Cammie is right One level no stairs. I believe that there were started after WW II. They were fast and easy to build for the soldiers coming home and their families.
