The Bible is pretty cool with gambling and lotteries. God was always instructing people to play games of chance to decide things, drawing lots etc.
Of course Jesus also preached that rich people were not going to heaven, so it is pretty pointless for a Christian to pursue the goal of becoming rich.
Gambling in the Bible
Numbers 26:52-56
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying ... the land shall be divided by lot.
Joshua 14:2
By lot was their inheritance, as the LORD commanded by the hand of Moses.
Joshua 18:6
Ye shall therefore describe the land into seven parts, and bring the description hither to me, that I may cast lots for you here before the LORD our God.
Joshua 19:51
These are the inheritances, which Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel, divided for an inheritance by lot in Shiloh before the LORD.
Joshua 21:8
And the children of Israel gave by lot unto the Levites these cities with their suburbs, as the LORD commanded by the hand of Moses.
1 Chronicles 26:13-14
And they cast lots, as well the small as the great, according to the house of their fathers, for every gate. And the lot eastward fell to Shelemiah. Then for Zechariah his son, a wise counsellor, they cast lots; and his lot came out northward.
Nehemiah 10:34
And we cast the lots among the priests, the Levites, and the people, for the wood offering, to bring it into the house of our God.
Acts 1:23-26
And they appointed two, Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias. And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, which knowest the hearts of all men, shew whether of these two thou hast chosen.... And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.

A true Christian should not play the Lotto, for this is a form of Gambling. It can cause one to become addicted, and over spend. Thus leaving bills unpaid, and maybe even worse problems. Some people feel that this isn't as bad as other forms of gambling. But if you think about it, even a little drop of poison can effect the body, in time. 1 Timothy 6:10 shows us that " the love of money is the root of all sorts of injurious things." The Bible does not use the specific word Gambling, but common sense will help one to see, that most who gamble love money, or the making of it.

We all know the answer to that question if you are a person of God. Ask yourself this question. Did Jesus paticipate in any activity such as this? No. The bible clearly states that one should not gamble. That all a part of the devil. We know that the root to all evil is money. Question when you win gambling do you really find it to be a full reward do you feel stress free? When you gamble and lose and most of the time people go over their bondaries they have problems paying bills, eating, having money to do extra actitvity that are needed in everyday living. to sum it all up no christians should not gamble.

ok im christian too, and what my pastor says is that its not bad to play lotto at all if you take it for what it is-a game....but if you start depending on the lotto for money and it gets addicting, that when it becomes a sin, because you're not depending on God , instead you're depending on the lotto..
also when you start spending too much money on playing the lotto and you make it a priority, thats also when you shouldnt play.
but besides that, you're ok!

That is up to the individual. Nowhere in the Bible does it say "thou shalt not play the lottery". However as a Christian you should be a good steward of the money you have, and since the lottery is basically a voluntary tax for stupid people, playing the lottery may not be the best way to be a good steward.

Probably not, as for someone to win, many others have to lose money. It's coveting even if you don't win and not relying on God for provisions.
