she is walked every day with a labrador so has plenty of exercise, she gets the best of food, her pen is disinfected twice a week, she is wormed and de-flead regulary but still gets them, the vet has to knock her out to shave her and i am always having to put cream on her sores. Is it worth putting up with or kinder to put her to sleep. She is always in good form, they dont seem to give her any bother but she looks so silly covered with patches of baldness and stubble.

i have no intention of putting my beautiful dog to sleep because she looks silly. If i though it was kinder on her instead of her being annoyed constently with this horrible thing i would but i a worried sick about her.

it sounds like she has an allergy to something that she is in contact with. she could be allergic to the other dog, the area where they are walked, her food, the disinfectant, the wormer, the flea treatments, it could be anything! the best thing to do is to take her to the vet and ask if they can perform an allergy test on her to find out what is causing her 'hot spots' that way you should have a clearer picture of what to give her and where to take her.

Get a non hypo-alergenic shampoo for her and bath her regularly making sure she is rinsed thoroughly.

Change her diet again.. try a rice and lamb dog food

Make sure you are not giving her any thing that is toxic to her system.. especially chocolate.

What chemicals are you using to disinfect her pen? she could possibly be allergic to the cleaner.

Sounds as tho your princess is worth trying a few things..

Putting an otherwise healthy dog to sleep is not an option... Just cause she looks silly ? She does not know this...

OMG, do not put her to sleep because of hot spots!!! This is sometimes normal for larger dogs to get. Just because she looks silly is not a reason to have her put down. Maybe you don't need to have a dog!!! Take her to the vet and ask what they suggest and perhaps they will know someone who will want her even if she looks silly. Shame on you!!!

Are you sure that they are "hot spots" and not red mange. My female pit was doing the same thing and I had my Vet take a skin sample, didn't hurt the dog just scraped the spot and tested, and it was actually red mange she had got from playing with my neighbors pit bulls. This is commen with pits and rots, and is easily treated with a couple of dips from the Vet. If its hot spots she would be scratching like CRAZY! Good luck with it though.

Maybe you should ask the vet is there an easier way to handle your dogs condition! If not, if you really love her and waant to really keep her, then you have to deal with her condition! If not, then the only choice is to give her up for adoption to someone who is willing to deal or put her to sleep! Good Luck!!!

Try Lavender oil this will help. My friends dog has the same problem and they have been using this for a while and it has cleared up. But once they clear up, it is still a good idea to keep using it to help them to not come back.
