I'm thinking on my lower back. A Butterfly with barbed wire. I'm a little nervous about the pain so I was just wondering if anyone else has gotton it done. What was it like?

I have a tattoo on my lower back of an oriental poppy flower, as someone else mentioned, the outline is probably the most painful.
It also depends on how dark/colourful/detailed the tattoo is. The tattoo artist also matters a little as the person I goto is VERY light handed, which is why my tattoo experiences are so pleasant.

It isn't unbearable, at all. Get someone you can trust to go with you, someone who will make fun of you for backing down. (That's how I managed to get mine!) If you really want it, then go for it. I'm sure you can handle it, remember, girls have a higher pain tolerance than guys because we have to give birth, I don't know from experience, but I'm sure no tattoo nor piercing could quite compare to that kind of pain.

In all reality there is pain involved in all tats. The pain level is going to vary from person to person depending on the persons pain tolerance. You can ask if the shop has some numbing cream too if you like. My bro in law had that for his but that was on his arm. Personally when I got my back done, the only time it really hurt was around the love handle area, the rest of it was pretty relaxing. You also have to take the time issue into account. Is it big or small? Is it detailed or pretty basic?

Just remember... the pain is only temporary

Hello Curiousity Killed The Cat, Try not to be too nervous about it, you're going to do fine. I have only had the outsides of my biceps tattooed but the closest thing I can compare it to .....it's like having tiny little sparks falling down on you over and over. They go out as soon as they hit the skin...but there's always more of them falling and hitting.. It doesn't hurt so much as it is annoying. The outlining burned a little more than the shading did (at least in my case). The next day (and for about 4 to 6 days later) its going to feel like a sunburn. The key is to relax, listen to music or talk to a friend to distract you. Use the best artist you can find. go to my 360 page and click on the dragon tattoo in my blog. My dragon was 12 hours old in that picture...no scabs..no bleeding.

I am doing 8 to 9 hours under the needles next month so I've been doing my research.....here is the best article I could find on pain as charted by body location

I hope this helps

Hun I just had a heart put on my lower back last week. It wasn't that bad. If you can handle a needle in general I think you will be fine. The outlining is the most painful part but it truly isn't that bad. You will cringe and you will not like the feeling but it's the end result that matters.

I have seen that tattoo on a few people and it looks awesome. One side of your back will feel worse than the other but all in all you can handle the pain. Just breathe steady and try to remain still.

ive got a butterfly on my lower back...it stings a little when first starting, but after a while, my back got a little numb. I thought the worst part was when the needle was on the spine, but other than that i wasn't that bad.

It is painful but while you're getting it but afterwards it's ok, if you every broke a bone or had a baby a tattoo would be easy!
