what are ways you use to calm yourself down?

i use meditation, slowing my breathing rate, and thinking about calm things

Getting away from everything and everybody and going to the beach at sunset and sunrise.

I go for a massage and tell the therapist I need to relax and meditate. When it's quite and the relaxing music is playing, it's hard not to relax. All you think about is how good it feels and where you were sore. Also reading a good book while taking a warm bath with a glass of wine is also nice!

congrats sounds like you are really working towards mindfulness. In addition, you may also want to try whale music, yes it sounds weird but it works. You may also consider what is making you so up tight and consider "cleaning house" so to speak. Perhaps it's feelings that you are stuffing down or something or someone in your life that is toxic. It takes courage but taking these steps to not only clense yorself but your environment will be essential to maintaining and developing mental health. You may also consider short term cognitive or relaxation training. If you don't have insurance you can go to your local community service board for often free or reduced cost services. Or you can get a referral from your doctor. Don't delay!!

I used guided imagery tapes i made myself, or take a hot bath and read a nice novel. I also listen to ocean wave recordings and the like. Petting a cat is good, too.

I find going for long walks very relaxing particularly as i go with my dog and she listens to all my problems. Also walks along the beach are great.

I have to exercise first, otherwise I think and twitch too much to meditate. But exercise helps a lot.

walk, music go to holisticonline.com for relaxation tips. also pray. drink chamomile tea. and also try magnesium. also bubble bath or venting with someone.
