Pigs are "unclean" animals. Realistically speaking, there would be insufficient fuel to properly cook pork to a high enough temperture to kill off Trichinella spiralis, which would have been a common parasite in undercooked pork of the day. By outlawing pork, it created a healthier population.

The reason is simple if you ate undered cooked pork you died. There is a disease Triginosis(may have spelled that wrong) that comes from pork. In the old days when the jews people were first become a nation the preists notes that those that ate pork died. Therefore, God must not want you eating pork. The same is true with shell fish, meat and milk being stored together. And other diet rule they are all health related.

It was one of the foods forbidden in the ancient dietary laws. I have read a theory that this was because pork was more likely to carry internal parasites or disease, and people then did not always have the means to thoroughly cook their food. And there is some truth to that. Even now, nobody eats pork chops rare. But that is only a theory, and I do not know if that is the real reason pork was forbidden.

According to the Bible (I believe the relevant passages are in Leviticus and Deuteronomy), kosher animals must chew their cuds and have completely split hooves. (FYI, birds and fish have different rules entirely). Pigs only have split hooves, but they don't chew their cud. QED, they aren't kosher.
It is a common misconception that pigs are outlawed for health reasons. It may be true that it's not healthy to eat pork, but that's just a side benefit. The Bible's reason is that pigs are spiritually unclean for Jews. If a Jew eats non-kosher, it will have negative effects on his/her soul.
It also states straight out that non-Jews are allowed to eat non-kosher to their heart's content, without any problems.
Pigs are considered the symbol of hypocrisy, because on the outside they look kosher (split hooves), but are really impure on the inside (not chewing cud).

It's forbidden in the Torah. The law is part of their covenant with G-d to seperate them from the Gentiles as a chosen people.

Because it is a scavenger and therefore an unclean animal.
This part of the Bible was written before there was a "Jew". God never meant for any person to eat a pig, not just the Jews.
