I met my boyfriend on MySpace. We've been together for almost 10 months so it is totally possible to find somebody special online. Even though I'm an adult (28 yrs) and have had experience with blind dates, I was still cautious about our first few dates because I didn't know him well.

The bottom line is that when you meet somebody online, you have to take precautions to keep yourself safe until you get to know them personally. People can be anybody they want when they are disguised by a screen name. Most people are genuine but we hear about the wackos so that is what everybody thinks of people online.

If you only know him from online and there is no change you'd ever meet, go ahead and keep the friendship but don't stop looking at guys in your own area.

If you want to meet, you should tell your parents. Depending on how young you are, sneaking away to meet him can make you a runaway and you'll get in trouble and probably wind up in family court. If your parents approve of the trip, they can help you plan your meeting so that you'd be safe. But don't be surprised if they say no.
