Julia, where are you from? Why are you making way off base remarks about big people and also Americans? Have you ever met someone from the USA? I'm an American, and I find it offensive that some people here WHO DOESN'T KNOW anyone from this country make snide remarks..I'm not one of those people who say crap about other countries and supports Bush no matter what... Chris, the same goes to you. And Chris, the Wright brothers were CREDITED with the first powered flight here in the US. That does NOT mean that others, worldwide, did not do the same.
And that remark about airport runways is a thinly veiled and unclever insult. Not very amusing, either

No, nearly any airport with hard-surface runways can accomodate any airplane at max weight... therefore, just because we are Americans and are heavier as a whole, the airplane doesnt discriminate, it cant be over a certain weight regardless of who is onboard... note: although the runways can accomodate nearly any aircraft, taxiways cannont hold as much weight and some airports dont have with horizontal clearance necessary for large aircraft...

Lol! Even the newer heavy aircraft don't exceed the point load limits for the runways and taxiways, they spread it over more wheels.
To answer it the other way, the way it was meant, most Americans, at least in California, aren't particularly overweight. Typical of an anorexic to ask though.
Americans always have an overinflated opinion of their significance too. Without Americans the world would not be without aircraft, no more than the US would be without jet engines without Frank Whittle. Aircraft existed before the Wright Brothers, and gas turbines were some of the earliest engines, powered flight was an invention that was waiting on engine technology, jet engines were waiting on materials technology.

Yes, indeed they do...they incorporated the heaviest of aircraft in order to make our runways more versatile than other countries.
Re:Americans being extra heavy
Wow.....Sounds to me like someone has hatred here.
Post your address, i'll send some marinated steaks your way....so long as you don't make fun of overweight Americans again.

aircraft are regulated by the total weight that each type can carry. The runways can accomodate the aircraft types that are used commercially regardless of the nationality of the passengers.

No, it's good tough AMERICAN concrete, handles our extra pudginess just fine. Which is more than I can say for that cheap British concrete during WW2, you know the one where we basicaly saved the free world? Yea, that one. Our B17s kept breaking through the concrete, and it wasn't because of the pilots fat asss. And those weren't candy bars we were dropping on Berlin back in '44 either.......

If we did need stronger runways I guess we'd have the technology and the money to build them... you sound jealous... are you from a third world country originally that doesn't have airports or enough food to feed their over-population problems?

No. The aircraft has a maximum weight regardless of what sort of stuff it's carrying. If it's full of heavy passengers it can't have as much freight and fuel.
