Whenever I want to backup 'My Documents' to my external hard drive by using the copy process, every so often the copy process is interrupted by a problem file - ii.e. a file that's open, or a file that has too many characters. I'd like it to just skip these files and continue with the copy process. Is there a way to get this to happen easily.?

Thanks in advance.

Problem open file - that's easy. Close all programs before starting the copy process. File with too many characters - never heard that one.

You might get away copying in Safe Mode. If you are not familiar with this:

Turn your PC on or Restart. As soon as you see the black and white screen, press and hold the F8 key. Continue holding until you see a black and white menu. Safe Mode is F3 or F5.

Open My Documents or the folder that contains the files you want to copy, select the files to highlight, right-click and click Copy. Then right-click on the external HD, and paste.

When you are finished, Restart. You will probably find your icons messed up. No biggee. Drag them back into place.

There is no way to have it stop doing that.
