All 'sacred texts' are undeniably written by people, so why would anyone think that a particular one was 'inspired' by a god, rather than having its origin in the imagination of the author(s)? On what basis does anyone make that judgment?

Pragmatic: Yes.

Nothing. The Old Testament is vile and I know many parts of it were absolutely not inspired by God, at least not the God I know. Paul is a sexist homophobe, and I know he was not inspired by God. Jesus had many wise things to say. Whether you believe he was inspired by God or not, most of what he had to say is good for living.

God is Love. If you want to know if it was inspired by God or not, then simply use love as your measuring stick.

Miracles and prophecy were done to prove scripture, not to win over the hearts of man.

Did a mans' hand write the bible? yes. Did a man write the bible? No. I believe that the bible is more than just a book written by man because it has more than mythology. There are teachings in this book that people are just now discovering for themselves and acting as if it were an original idea.

An example is deontology and the arguments against it. Jesus stated what was wrong with deontology long before the logic was ever invented. The bible was not just written by God in a dictation sense, but also God plays a role in the text itself. Believe what you want to though, because believing what we want to is our own God given right. (look up Mathew 12:1-8)

True, about 40 men shared in writing the Bible. These men did the actual writing of the Bible with the exception of the Ten Commandments, which were written personally by God on stone tablets by the direct action of his holy spirit. (Exodus 31:18) However, this does not make what they wrote any less the Word of God. The Bible explains: “Men spoke from God as they were borne along by holy spirit.” (2 Peter 1:21) Yes, just as God used his powerful holy spirit to create the heavens, the earth and all living things, he also used it to direct the writing of the Bible.

This means that the Bible has only one author, Jehovah God. He used men to write the information down, much as a businessman uses a secretary to write a letter. The secretary writes the letter, but the letter contains the thoughts and ideas of the businessman. So it is his letter, not the secretary’s, even as the Bible is God’s Book, not the book of the men who were used to write it.

"Everyone agrees" is a ridiculous overstatement. I don't agree. Neither do 6.6 million Jehovah's Witnesses and growing and I dare say there are alot of other religions that don't agree either. Just because God extended the priviledge of acting as his secretaries and writing down his words, does not change the fact that he is indeed the author of this, his letter to mankind. If you will read the entire Bible, pray for holy spirit to help you understand it and truly want to know the truth, you will see that no human or group of humans could have possibly composed it. Lying about a person or thing does not make it so and lying about God is not real smart. Get your facts and your heart straight. Repent and turn around.

God uses human beings to do His work here on earth. If He were to come here in person, would that make any difference to you? I suspect not, if you persist in having a closed mind about this subject. I used to believe as you do, but now I understand and know the truth. It's not that difficult when you consider the evidence. As Jesus said, "If you abide in My word...you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." Read the Book. Especially the New Testament. If you do this with an open mind, you will realize that these writings truly were "inspired". (2 Timothy 3:16)

7. It gives a logical and believable explanation of how this world (and thus the rest of the universe) came to be, and thus why we should worship the Creator

BIBLE WRITTEN BY HUMAN BEINGS AS IT WAS LIVED AND READ BY HUMAN BEING 396TH YEAR FROM PUBLISHED AND UNDERSTOOD BY FEW HUMAN BEINGS SINCE.

Actually the Bible is a volume of books with over 40 authors.

We know the Scriptures are inspired by God because he has revealed his truth through them. He only used men to write them.

The basis we make that judgment is by our answered prayers, miracles, and guidance God gives us throughout our lives.

It's really not a judgment call, the bible says that it's written by people and different books within it actually say if God was speaking through the writer, or if they are simply one persons letter to another, account of something that happened, or otherwise.

If the bible were the true word of god who is timeless, omnisicent, and possesses great intelligence (imagine the intelligence required to simutaneously read the minds of billions of "his" creation) there would be no flaws, contradictions, or inconsistancies. It is replete with errors. For those who doubt me look up Joseph's (Jesus' "father's" family tree. Mathew traces Joseph's decent to King David by 28 generations while Luke has him pegged at 41 generations with very little overlap in names (2)

What is the relevance of Joseph's family tree leading to David anyway if Joseph isn't the father?? There are contradictions thoughout the bible just like this. If it was the word of god, how did he miss this stuff????
