I have to go to the dentist for a cleaning and to get my wisdom teeth pulled. I have NEVER had work on this order done so I'm so freaked out. I'm somewhat of a tough girl and telling me how I feel is out of the picture. I dont want the dentist to think I"m a baby so I dont want to die and have a panic attack which I think is going to happen. I feel like canceling the appt. due to being afraid.

I have never gave a dentist trouble before so he doesn't know that I have this all of a sudden fear. Was I afraid all along and didn't know it? What can he do for me? I don't want to get any injections, but that's because I'm scared, I'm not scared of needles until it comes to my mouth. I have only recieved cleanings and x-rays and one filling when I was younger. I remember them hurting and I made up in my mind never again.

I dont want laughing gas or dental behavior treatment either so what can I do? Please help me especially if your in the dental field. I need all the advice I can get.

I am a dental assistant and I have personally had my wisdom teeth out about 1 year ago. They were impacted so it was a little more involved than just pulling teeth. Oh, and I have never had a filling done either so I wasn't real sure what to expect. Well it wasn't bad at all. They gave me I.V. sedation, so I slept through the whole thing and they gave me the injections once I was asleep and everything was still numb when I woke up.

If you don't want all the sedation stuff you can ask the dentist for a perscripton for a 5ml valum which is a very small amount. It just helps you to relax a little and if you don't feel it working take another. The oral surgeon will put something called topical on the gums before giving you the injections which numb your gums before the needle goes in. Tell him to put the topical on twice before sticking the needle in. You don't have much of a choice but to get an injection. Also, get the dentist to give you a perscription for pain pills before the procedure is done and take one of those 1 hour before the procedure starts. Don't get the perscripton and then cancel the appt. because they'll think you are a drug head and were just after the pain meds. Just a little advice.

Make sure you follow all instructions that they give you after they are taken out. It is important that you do everything they say so you don't get a dry socket, which can cause a little pain afterwards.

You will be okay! Don't cancel the appt.

After having eight teeth removed (including wisdom) do to crowding, the wisdom teeth were a snap. No pain at all. A feeling of pressure only. The truth is a filling with no Novocaine is more painful. I was a terrified 15 year old boy at the time. My mother didn't tell me why I was going to the dentist do to his request. It's so easy I'll do cheer for you!

Sorry but you will need to have the injection if your wisdom teeth are going to be removed, otherwise it will be unbelievably painful. They general numb the area before the injections, to there should be very little pain. In the pass they did not numb for filling some time that made it very painful is may be what happen to you. Untreated a wisdom tooth can be come infected leading to a great deal of pain, and if untreated it can be fatal.

Ask your dentist if he can give you a pill to help you relax before your appointment, usually they'll give you something, if not try deep breathing it helps relax you, too. When I had my wisdom teeth pulled, the dentist rubbed Anbesol on the spot where the needle was going in, then he massaged the same spot while he gave me the shot, it didn't hurt too bad at all.

I know you said you do not want laughing gas, but it is the best way to get that done. I recently had to have this done, and I got the gas, and needles, but once I fell asleep, I did not feel the needles at all. I did not even know they gave me the needles!

suck it up, grow a pair & get your mouth fixed. or you can suffer toothache, gum disease & the resultant abscesses (& then you will find out what pain is) untreated mouth/tooth problems can lead to blood poisoning which, left untreated, will kill you in terrible ways. get fixed. no one likes the dentist, but the alternative is much, much worse.
