I got a new housemate about 6 months ago who brought her two cats with her. The three cats used to live together when my cat was a kitten. Anyway my cat (Marilyn) didn't like the idea and left. At first she would come back at night, then every couple of days then once a week and now she doesn't come home at all. I see her in the street and she has now become a stray. We are willing to lock the other cats out if we can get Marilyn home, but we just aren't sure if that’s the right thing to do for her.
Do you have any idea how I can get my Marilyn back? Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks guys but I have tried clling her and she has never responded to food. I can't bear to have her gone anymore and if i could just 'catch' her I would have done so already! Thanks for all your suggestions.

Noisily open up a can of smelly, wet cat food outside, when you know she's near. I bet she's hungry, and she'll want to come eat it.
If you haven't yet, when you can get her, put a collar, with tags, on her.
If you still can't get her back, I have no idea what to do.

The problem is that you cat is having 2 problems: 1. She is jealous and 2. She doesn't accept the smell of the other cats.

The right thing to do is definitely bring your cat home so that she doesn't get hurt and/or turn into a feral cat in the future.

You need to thoroughly clean the house and furnishings to get rid of the smell of the other cats that your cat can smell, even if you don't.

Bring your cat home and be very patient and loving with her. Let her know that she is number 1 cat. It is also an idea to have a place for her to get cosy that is dark and small that she can retreat to.

After a while, you could try to slowly introduce the other cats to the house.

You may also like to consult an animal behaviourist - your vet can put you in touch with one.

Good luck.

I would try calling her name and using a can of tuna in oil to lure her home. It may take a while if she has been away a while but keep trying I had this problem with a male cat but he just wouldn't come home he got the taste of freedom and stayed gone. Good Luck!!

if you can catch her, your best bet is to find her an alternative good home, possibly with a friend or family member, then you can keep contact with the cat. your housemate's 2 cats really ought (even need, to an extent) to be kept together since they were raised this way & would stress/grieve for the loss of their own "pride".
also, you must consider what's fair to the other 2 cats. is locking them out fair or healthy for them? perhaps your housemate needs to seek other accomodation with his/her 2 cats if you can not face rehoming your cat. (bear in mind rehoming 1 cat will be easier than rehoming 2 together).
your cat is unfortunately one of those cats who will absolutely not share her territory.
good luck & i hope you can catch her & find her a good home or solve your problem in the best way for the animals. remember, you (& your housemate imposed your world on them. you both bear a heavy responsibility to these animals for their welfare)

I would leave food out for her in the back yard. That way she won't starve and you can at least see her.
